I wouldnt recommend leaving a bag of taties in a cupboard for 6 months. Not that weve ever done this, you understand....just warning people.

Eeew... about the tatties. This is an interesting thread, as I've taken on a half share in a small seasonal tourer and this is the first year, so it's all new to me after so long tenting. When we got the van levelled up and connected a week or so ago (couldn't go earlier as site was too wet!) I took out some bedding to leave there, including a hot water bottle. There's already a survival kit of tinned and packet stuff, porridge pots etc in the cupboard. I'm a duvet person; am too much of a restless sleeper for a sleeping bag, I feel too trussed up. Looking forward to trying the place out next week.

People don't usually use sheets these days as sleeping bags are more convenient to fold up and store which we leave in the caravan and bring them home just over the winter period along with any raincoats etc. Regarding the clothes is down to personal choice but we always bring them home and wash the garments that have been worn.

We ALWAYS use a sheet. We have a double mattress on the rear dinette and we then just take our quilt and pillows from our bed at home to go on top. Our caravan sheets are different only because we have a king sized bed at home and the van is a double.

We keep our van at home, so not much of a problem. At the end of a trip, clothes come out for washing(used) and freshening up(unused). We have Duvalay sets for sleeping. All except the foam mattresses come out for wash and iron.
For over wintering, no clothes or bedding are left in van, and anything that freezing cold conditions can damage is also removed. Although, from October until end of March, when not in use, the van is permanently hooked up to mains supply and a 2-foot (120 watt) tubular heater is kept running 24/7.
If doing anything in van during this time (e.g., minor repairs or a modification), the gas space heater is used both for my comfort and to further air the van.
Bertie.
