the old boy that used to own our van his aim could'nt have been good and the toilet carpet/floor smells of urine has anyone any ideas have to get rid of the smell.
Get rid of the carpet if possible. Wash everything with a bio washing liquid and treat hard surfaces and floor with a cleaner meant for pets such as "Urineoff". Pets shops or Amazon

You can buy enzyme type cleaners from carpet shops, supermarkets (rug doctor) or online.
Yes or a cheaper version is to use a bowl of diluted BIOLOGICAL Washing powder as it too has enzymes. Was recommended to us by woodgreen animal sanctuary to get rid of the smell from kittens, if it works for kittens, IMHO there is nothing worse than the smell of cat wee, must work for other smells.

thanks for all replys, yes carpet will go in bin, and i will remove the toilet and give it a good scrub, just in case some urine crept under, then get our local carpet shop to fit a new fitted carpet. they did my last van and good job they did.
A piece of decent quality flooring vinyl is far more practical for toilet areas than any carpet, even with care, men still often accidently drip a bit, and a lot of modern vinyls are slip resistant and warm to the feet too.
Most new caravans now have vinyl flooring laid throughoutt, with loose lay mats ontop.

My nephew had a pee smell problem with his new to him van, no amount of scrubbing would get rid of it.
Don’t worry he did eventually find the source of the problem, this will sound strange but it’s true.
He took out the toilet cassette and undid the circle on top that the flap is attached to, all of the mechanisms were caked in nasty stuff that absolutely stunk, he replaced that chunk of the toilet cassette and hey presto smell gone forever.
How it got caked in pee like that I have no idea but it may be worth keeping in mind if you can still smell pee after all of the obvious options.
Pee smells are usually caused by bacteria growth, they like nothing better than some kind of medium to hang onto whilst they grow, often limescale in a urinal is the culprit. Bleach in itself may kill most of the bugs for a while but for long lasting cure get rid of the limescale, carpet or whatever they use as a growth medium. Agree with romany girl on the vinyl.

we are collecting van tomorrow so first thing carpets out, there is vnyl flooring underneath, then take out the thetford toilet so floor can be scrubbed clean with u-r-ine cleaner and bio washing powder and water. air van out, scrub toilet while out of van, will check cassette, there are videos on youtube showing how pull apart the toilet, and get new removable carpet set.
Sounds to me like you've got it pretty much sorted with that plan, not the most pleasent of jobs but you will be glad when it's all clean and sweet smelling again.
