I'm sure someone clever can do a link to BBC news!
There's a story about a new female caravan designer and her retro style caravan, it looks lovely!

I saw it a few weeks ago. Good luck to her, I hope it sells well, and I'm sure it will. It's different, and the curvy design should eliminate many of the water ingress problems with modern caravans.

They want £13k upfront 12wks before delivery. Sounds like payment in advance for building the thing. This suggests they expect buyers to take the business risk along with themselves. If anybody wants to pay £24k for a caravan this size then their choice but they need to see it in the showroom ready for them to tow away before they pay anything more than a nominal deposit. I think it would be most unwise to buy the caravan on the required terms.

The caravans are built by Watsonian Squire which is a long established motorbike sidecar maker. I guess they will want the £13k first before they build the caravan which also suggests the profit margin. Any dispute between Barefoot & Watsonian may well result in buyer’s deposit going walkabout.

They had one on display at the Manchester show, in the flesh they are a stunning quirky caravan, I personally hope they do well

Poor history of UK startups of new caravan builders. Think Stealth & Eterniti. Both went down & left customers out of pocket, some by many £thousands. Bankruptcy laws in this country do not refund customers just for having faith in a new product.

If anybody wants one of these then I would suggest they put the ball in the maker’s court & state that if they have faith in their product then show the finished item ready to tow away before any cash changes hands. I’m struggling to see how this project can succeed on the terms offered on the website tbh. Would anybody want this caravan so much they are prepared to risk that much?

I love the Daily Mails headline "Worlds first CURVY caravan"

Erm..............no.

But to get back to the caravan, it reminds me of the GoPod caravan.

eh?? am i missing something here.....but then again people spend crazy money on VW campers, i guess its the same, money no object dreamers they are chasing.

but with prices like that their business is not going to expand.

on a similar note though i drive past a place in kidderminster that makes reproduction Airstream caravans but for burger vans, bars etc... but they also make touring caravans.

I might be prepared to take the risk, and pay that kind of money, if I had loads of the stuff to spare, but unfortunately I don't. I love anything different and quirky, and this certainly ticks the right boxes for me. One of the reasons I like my old Elddis is because when I pull onto a site with it, I know that I will not be pitching up right next to another one exactly the same. In fact, it's highly unlikely there will be another one on the same site anywhere.

The point I am making is that if I think like that, there are probably loads of others who think the same, and some of those people WILL have loads of money. I can't see this being a mass-market product, more a niche-market one aimed at a very specific type of person. I think it is either going to really take off, or disappear without trace, and I certainly hope it is the former.

Colin

Who on earth would pay a deposit of £1000 and then a week before production another £12000 and the balance 48 hours before you have even seen the caravan. I cannot see any one doing this unless they have plenty of cash to throw around. As for the waste master and aquaroll costing £160 that is certainly an April fool joke!
BTW as it is a custom made product under Consumer law it will be extremely difficult to get any sort of refund if things go pear shape with the build.
I wonder if they have sold any yet?

I am sure there are some who will, iank01. There are people out there who are prepared to pay ridiculous amounts of money for just about anything, if they REALLY want it. If I had pots of money I would probably be one of them, but unfortunately I am not, which is why I have a 1992 Elddis. If I had loads of money there is no way I would buy a caravan, or anything else for that matter, if it looked just like everyone else's. I very much doubt whether I am alone in thinking like that.

Definitely wouldn't pay that much for the Aquaroll and Wastemaster though. They would be just like everyone else's, and I know you can get them for a fraction of that price.

Colin

I'd be pretty certain they will sell some, as with all these small type caravans they usually cost more than some full size family vans, you only need to look at cost of eriba's, the swift base camp is over 16k new a new 2 berth coachman vip is 24k.

As for the waste master and aqua roll it's probably made to fit in a particular place not the ones we can buy off the shelf but yes they are still expensive.

Lets not forget these are lighter caravans that can be towed with lighter cars, making them perfect for couples that dont have the correct license

I have to say finish on the one i saw at the manchester show was impeccable,

I hope they do well

Bessie

I would doubt if FL Hitchman would tool up a production line for something they are only going to make about three a year of.

Oh and on FL Hitchman's own website the cost of each unit is £80.
