Hay All
Just been looking at breakdown cover for my car and new caravan. Not been a problem before as all my previous vans have been under 7Mts. My current breakdown company states caravans have to be under 7Mts and others I've been looking at say similar. Theres a lot of caravans out there now over 7Mts so what do you use.
All Help appreciated Richard W.
Green Flag Mayday as there's no restriction on length or weight of unit. However, you have to be a member of the Caravan and Motorhome Club to qualify which is worth it if you can't get appropriate breakdown cover elsewhere.
RAC Arrival (via the Camping and Caravanning Club} offers "Cover for large units over 7.6 metres (25ft) in length or 2.3 metres (7 ft 6 in) in width." Link

We have mayday for 8m
You don't need to be CMC member to get mayday by the way
That's not what it quotes on the link I provided if you read it properly ass it states the following:
Green Flag is the official UK breakdown cover provider for The Caravan and Motorhome Club. So if you’re a member, you can rest assured that you’re always covered. Designed by caravanners for caravanners, our MAYDAY vehicle rescue is developed exclusively for caravans, trailers and motorhomes.
The way I read it you do actually have to be a Caravan and Motorhome Club member to qualify.

yeh it is a little misleading, but i aint going to make them aware of this as I am taking advantage of not joining the CMC and having the mayday.
I seem to recall that the FCA rules dont permit Green Flag to force you to join the CMC to take the policy.
Don't forget that neither company has access to either's records.
I have used the Policy to recover my motorbike with a puncture with no issues, and the only query i had was part of the security checks where they ask how I had obtained the policy.
The body length cannot exceed 7m otherwiseyou cannot tow it on a UK road. Many breakdown companies refer to the body length and not the shipping length. We are with Mayday so no issue.
Gcms...just use the link tango posted and pay your premium.....green flag don't ask for any details about CMC ......the policy document s are all there so you can check if it's valid for your rig

That may be true, but if you have a breakdown they ask for details and may have to produce your membership card. If it turns out that you are not a member of the CMC they can decline service.
Also if they felt so inclined, but unlikely, they could charge you with fraud which is a criminal offence. Either way you could be stuck and have to pay mega bucks to get home so is it worth taking the chance to save a couple of quid?
Hi
Thanks for the reply's they have been most helpful. I contacted autonational rescue who does my breakdown cover to ask if its 7mts without the A frame but the point was mute as the rep said there wasn't a size limit so happy days. Richard W

Dont worry, its not fraud...and if you read the T&Cs for the policy there is no requirement to have CMC membership.
Its them that is playing us as there is legislation that stops them from making membership a condition of purchasing the product.
If you like i can quote the FCA rules (The FCA rules are my everyday job so i do know what I am talking about).
Also, like I say they don't share info as this will breach the DPA (GDPR)
