Can anyone offer advice please? I sold our old awning on eBay over a week ago. The person who won the auction has not responded to any emails regarding collection and I am at my wits end! We need it gone. She did, however, pay for it - eventually!
The awning was sold on a collection only basis.
Yesterday I sent her an email saying that I had her payment, but if she didn't arrange collection I would be forced to cancel the sale.
Can I do this? Has anyone else had a similar situation?

My goodness! I have sold a number of items on eBay with collection only and never had a problem. However, you have frightened me now, so I think I will cancel this and go to somewhere like Gumtree as well as UKCS.
Thanks for the timely advice.

When I ebay stuff I offer either postage with Hermes & state cost or buyer collects & pays cash. There is no reason for a paypal payment for buyers collecting in person so do not offer it.
I can second that warning from Grampian, Ebay/PayPal only want to see official proof of posting type paperwork, they will refund the monies at the drop of a hat if the recipient complains that they didn't get the goods. You are left with no goods, no money and nobody wants to know.
This happened to my son, because it was Xmas and post was slow he delivered the goods by hand. Customer claimed no goods received and got full refund. No proof of delivery, no official paperwork so no interest. We ended up initiating Small Claims Court to get the cash, the threat of court sorted things out. Best avoided at all cost.

The problem with ebay is that you MUST offer paypal.
And another issue more recently is sending contact details to potential buyers. People have been restricted or had bans for sending contact details before the items sells.
Makes it difficult if buyers ask the postcode or location closer than that stated on the listing.
ie your listing may say London, buyer wants to know which side. But sending them the postcode or street etc will get you into trouble.
They see it as trying to sell without paying the fees.
Not sure if the link mentions paypal gift payments, avoid that like the plague also. If they pay as a gift then they can claim back as a fraudulent transaction and paypal claim the money back from you. They see it as it was a gift so you have lost nothing.
Yes but how I do it is I always offer postage by Hermes or buyer collect. For anybody paying by paypal the price will also include postage which they will not want to pay if they are collecting in person so for that reason they will pay cash when they collect.
Yep stick the postage really high but make it clear that its free to collect. And dont put your name or contact details in the description they are clamping down on that.
Am I reading this right, the person has paid but not collected.
The comments appear to have gone off topic slightly.
I would send an email via eBay every couple of days, this is then logged, keep the money in your PayPal and stick the awning in the shed.
Let’s assume that the buyer is not up to something naughty, they could be laid up in hospital after being hit by a bus or something.
I'm with Opensauce, if collecting then no PayPal and I've seen hundreds of items that clearly state 'no paypal' due to fees! I've also seen hundreds with a postcode in the description and a lot have the sellers address at the very bottom particularly if it's a classified sale.
Keep the money and put the awning in the shed for the time being!
I’ve been paid by PayPal even though my ad stated cash on collection, when that happened I made the buyer leave me feedback before they left my house, when I explained the reason why they totally understood they said they only paid as they had the money in their PayPal account.
A guy from our Leeds depot sold his iphone was paid by PayPal, met the buyer in Leeds city centre thought he was doing a good deed the guy them claimed the phone never arrived and he got his money back via PayPal, £250 lost
A lad in my office sold a Tiffany necklace at Christmas a few years ago, the buyer from Lithuania put a claim in saying it was fake when it wasn’t the buyer was going to get a full refund.
I’m sure he closed his PayPal and bank account to stop the refund, not to sure if it worked or not
In the end I refunded the money and cancelled the sale. I have now listed the awning on UKCS, Gumtree and the Caravan Club Site. After a few days I also relisted it on eBay stating a preference for cash on collection. However, I take the point about having to include PayPal as a payment method - there doesn't seem any way around this. Auction is still on-going, so we shall see. Basically, we want the awning gone as it is taking up space that we need and also we are away (in our caravan) for 4 weeks soon and don't want to have it hanging around for another 6 weeks or so waiting to be sold.
Incidentally, I still haven't heard a dicky bird from the original purchaser. She lives 135 miles away and has a foreign sounding name, so may not have understood the bit about collection only.

for large items like that I now find its easier to sell on a local facebook group ,as the others have stated ,PayPal with a pick up is lethal to many scammers out there often with foreign sounding names . also be careful selling using a courier pick up as they do have weight limitations
I know a lot of people sell stuff on Facebook, black fox, but we don't do social media on principle. I accept that there is a certain amount of cutting off our noses to spite our faces, but the more we hear about Facebook, the more the whole thing sounds very distasteful!

i have the exact same problem with ebay now, i've just put the phone down from them and they have shown me a way of getting my buyers details including the phone no.
I sold a wheel that finished last sunday night, cash on collection no post, the buyer is based in london and paid via paypal last night with no response to my emails stating collection and cash.
