Hi all,

We recently bought our first caravan and it came with a Dorema Hacienda awning that needs two poles replacing. Can anybody recommend a good place to go? I've had a look on eBay and struggled to find it (might be me not describing properly) and I'd prefer to avoid Dorema dealer prices if possible.

Thanks for your help.

What is actually wrong with the two poles that need replacing?
Are they bent, split, corroded or something else?

I scrapped a Dorema awning some time ago, but I have kept the poles which are the fibreglass type. I used a couple to make a veranda pole for our present awning.

Hi tango55, I was going to post some photos but can't. I think I'd describe them as metallic and bent, squashed and, in one case, slightly torn around the hinge/connection. There are two poles affected - one a corner junction and one a spring loaded pole.

The 2 Tops - I'm not sure if that was an offer of spares but I don't think they're fibreglass. Thanks for the reply.

Yours sound like metal - probably steel, but could be aluminium.   I'd bet there are older awnings with similar poles being sent to the tip all the time - you just need to be lucky enough to meet up with someone about to throw one out.

I have bought odd secondhand poles from a local caravan dealer for very little money.

You can cut poles to length. Most will be a standard diameter tubing.

If you have a large-ish dealer nearby drop in and ask what they do with unwanted awning poles from old awnings from p/x vans. Highbridge in Somerset used to have loads next to the awning shop - this was a few years ago as we got some from them for a charity donation.
