Thanks Boff, I don't think I will bother with these expensive charcoal filters from next year. We don't drink straight from the aquaroll unless it's been boiled for tea or coffee, plus, to make absolutely sure we consume beer and wine instead.

We puriclean the pipework at least once a year, and I think I will continue with that regime.

Dave.

I don't like pi$$ing about with things I don't need to.
My caravan gets drained down in winter only, I rinse the aquaroll out with water at the start of the season and run some water through the pipes to flush them. When I need water I open the tap and fill kettle/glass/whatever.

Maybe it's because I am of the generation that played out, climbed trees, drank from a hosepipe or even a stream, vegetables came covered in mud and if if I grazed myself I didn't go to A&E, I spat on my hand and rubbed it on the graze and carried on playing

Not sure what generation you are sir but never have I read something that I agree with more.

I pretty much do the same as you, I drain the system down after every trip and sterilise the Aquaroll at the start of the new season, touch wood I've never had any problems.

I do believe that the reason so many people are effected by hay-fever these days is that we as a species is getting too clean. I see kids get a slight graze on there knee and the parents are there with disinfectant wipes etc. When I was a kid my mam would never use disinfectant, just wash it and in worst cases put a plaster on.

I am 59, spent my childhood and teenage years in the two best decades for music (60s and 70s) and before the PC brigade, bean counters and do-gooders took over

Thanks for all your comments. Back now so more able to read and look at them. Wi- fi on site bit patchy! I think I will just clean everything out and flush pipes etc and use fresh water in aquaroll. I, too, am from the playing out etc generation.

Tend to go to stand pipe for drinking water anyway...even in France and I'm still alive!

Gail's problem is with the taste of the water not with its purity and the taste problem isn't just for caravans its also found in houses with mains water.

Sterilising regular is important, it isn't just for health concerns its to prevent the related problem of things like water to splutter from hot taps because the non-return valve has a bio film/limescale build up, as well poor water flow due to tap filters clogging with black dried algae.
However sterilising and descaling isn't compulsory, I do it despite not drinking the caravan water due to its tcp taste.
Its up to individual whether they do or not
