Hi all, I have a Peugeot 3008 1.6 active E Hdi S-E. 2014. I believe the max tow limit is only 1090kg (unsure because I don't have an owners manual) so what can I get. I've looked at the base camp but I think these might be to heavy, but freedom caravan might fit the bill? I'm looking for 2 berth 3 if possible but has to have a toilet/shower

Ignore the vehicle's maximum towing limit as it's absolutely meaningless in terms of safe towing. All vehicle manufacturers have to apply a figure that relates to the breaking strain of the towbar itself so you could in effect tow more than the weight of the car itself merely because the towing limit states just that. What you need to find out is the kerbweight of the car then calculate 85% of that weight which is the figure that you should be adhering to in terms of a safe match.

The 85% rule is just a guide line and not law. If you are new to towing it will be advisable to stick to it until you become experienced. The vehicles tow limit may be different than the kerb weight, sometimes the tow limit will be more than the kerb weight. You should never tow more than the kerb weight, sometimes the limit will be lower than the kerb weight that is because the manufactuer has set it at this due to what the vehicle can realistically tow when pulling away.
So you really need to do a search on your vehicle to confirm its kerb weight so you don't go over but also to confirm its max tow weight so you don't damage the vehicle in any way, the Caravan Club will be able to advise you

On a 2014 model there should be a plate, often at the bottom of the driver's side B post, with all the relevant weights printed on it.

First thing you do need to do is find actual max tow weight of car. Get a handbook from a peugeot parts dept for that. For that 1.6 diesel though you only want to be towing about a tonne. I tow a 900kg caravan with Berlingo with same engine & it’s a good match.

You will get a toilet & a shower in the toilet within the weight you can tow but not a caravan with a separate shower cubicle I doubt. You appear to want to buy new which limits your choice. If you go back to 1990s there were plenty of smaller caravans about 2 berth with toilet/shower compartment under a tonne. My 1995 Abbey for example.

You can see plenty of 90s 2berths on ebay for cheap enough around a grand but you have to know what you are buying to avoid a damp wreck.

You could look at the Eriba Tritons 410 or 420 2/3 birth and light weight. Expensive but well built. Yes i have one but not for sale though.

Can't find any info on the car about weight limits but noticed on the V5 maximum towable mass 1090kg so I guess I'm looking at something in the 750-850kg range?

As pointed out. Any caravan that weighs under a tonne fully laden will be ok.

The E is probably what does the damage. I suspect it means they shave as much weight as possible out making to to weak to tow much for the sake of a couple of extra miles per gallon.

1090kg is a fair bit, our Bailey Pursuit 400-2 has everything you need and MTPLM of 1090kg.
