Hi Everyone.

We are looking to buy a 6 bed caravan and I like the idea of an end bedroom to shut away the kids! The ages of caravan we are looking at in our budget have triple bunks and then a dinette/single. I only need 3 beds in the bedroom so was wondering if it's easy to remove one of the bunks and lower the remaining 2 bunks so that they each have more headroom. Anyone ever done this?

I know we could just buy a 5 bed but my kids are getting older and I want the extra space of a 6 bed.

Thanks

Hi Alexco, I have a Bailey Senator Carolina series 6 with a rear lounge containing triple bunks. I have converted this into one super king sized bed by removing the bottom 2 bunks leaving the top one in place. Each bunk has it's own narrow window and light so you would need to fix your new positions relative to these.
It's an easy conversion. Good luck with it.

May not be important to you, but make sure that you check the length of the bunk beds. We have an Adria with the triple bunks. Top two are 1.9m long which is ok for my eldest two teenagers. We found some bunks were much shorter than this and would not allow "growing room".

Thanks very much for your replies.
Actually it was a Bailey I was looking at, a Pageant Bretagne. How long are the bunks in your Senator (I assume they are the same length as the Bretagne?) My oldest son is only 12 now but he's growing like a weed!

I have not actually measured them, but the brochure says 6'2" x 1' 11", which I would say is about right. Not sure which year Bretagne you are looking at, but the series 7 quotes bunk sizes of 6' 0" x 1' 11". Bailey have a good caravan archive microsite where you can view all the caravan brochures with specs and bed sizes.

are you looking for a layout with 2 bunkbeds one side and a dinette the other side at the rear?

my caravan has this arrangement and the end can be closed off.

there are a folding bunk and a wide bed that can be made out of the dinette.

i thought this layout was a popular one.

my caravan is a coachman amara 570/6 but they also made a wanderer of the same.

whan looking for this layout though i also looked at a twin axle lunar eclipse 640/6 with the same layout.

is this what you were looking for?

Hi, we have the Bretagne (2010) with the triple bunk layout. We only use the top 2, then fold the bottom one up and use it for storage (mattress in the loft). The length is fine and the distance between isn't too bad (smaller child - currently 10 and not small for his age - on the top bunk) The side dinette is too useful a space to lose to a bed for us.

The problem with moving the beds would be the positioning of the side windows - not sure how you would fit 2 bunks in without fouling at least one window.

Good luck if you do change it but I've seen a family with 3 teenagers using the bunks effectively. I think it's what they get used to.
