Had a directional 550 status aerial on my old van that would extend up through van roof slightly and turn and tilt.
My new van has the fixed disc type 330 status aerial with the common 2 stage booster and can't get signal on some campsites where my old van could.
To my regret I didn't swap them before selling my old van and don't want to spend the 150 on buying another directional.
I reckon the small plastic antenna that screws onto the top of the 330 could be improved / modified with possibly a small directional antenna and manually aimed.
Has anyone tried this or come up with a way of improving status 330?.

The small pointed plastic antenna that screws on the top is actually called the pinnacle. I thought that I would mention this because if you want to do further research on what you need it may be easier to find with the correct term that's all.
As you can't get a signal on some campsites it maybe because you are too near to the transmitter. However, there is a second switch on the booster box that is designed to pull the signal down especially when sited in a vallley so it's worth trying this first and see if you can receive more channels. It has worked for us with a Status 315 roof aerial which I believe is identical to the Status 330 model I think.

The status 330 is useless unless you can see the transmitter mast on a foggy day.
Buy a cheap house aerial and clamp it to a pole attached to the A frame or better still one of These

Always try with booster in either high or low setting. You are correct though. Sometimes high gives no results but low does.

Ironically one of these came with my old van but sold it because the status 550 always worked.....doh!
Another aerial = more clutter in van so determined to do something with the 330.

a directional aerial is what is needed.. one you can turn around and point at where the signal is coming from.. how you do it is up to you..

the onnidirectional things are pretty useless..

I replaced my whip aerial with an omnidirectional one (the whip aerial broke) and I kind of wish I had gone for one of the directional ones.

In the end I have just bought a small aerial that you bolt to the side of the house and got a pole that attached to the jockey wheel.

Makes a huge difference, no longer am I picking up dodgy strength channels etc.

I still use the omnidirectional aerial, but its just for radio.
