I do hope somebody can help me with this because I know when we ordered a new full size Dorema awning for our Elddis Riviera 505, (same as Avante 505 but a dealers special model), it was too big and we had to have it altered.

We'd foolishly gone with the awning size listed in the handbook for our modelNot always to be trusted......lesson learnt the hard way

Now as if that wasn't bad enough, even more stupidly, numpty here, didn't think to write the actual awning size in the handbook which sure would have been helpful for any future full size awnings we might want, especially as we had actually done the proper measurement thingy for the alteration You know......threading string through the awning rail and reaching the ground on each side to get the accurate measurement

In brief......I've been an idiot.....no change there then

Well, until now this hasn't been a problem because we've only downsized to a porch awning in latter years as this was easier for my hubby to put up without any help/hindrance from yours truly.

Not only am I getting even more useless with the practical things owing to being a decrepit, (disabled), but since I'd literally been taken off my feet more than once when attempting to hold on to the main centre pole of the full awning during windy days as my hubby struggled to get the awning set up, my hubby decided a porch awning was the way to go. An ageing ole decrepit hippy is not what anyone wants to see flying around on a campsite!

We got a really nice and really easy for him to put up alone Kampa Rallye 303 and have used that for the past 3 years BUT......we both really miss the space that a full size awning gives by literally doubling our living area. Anyway, my question is does anybody have or have had in the past, an Elddis Avante 505 with a full size awning so that you might be able to tell me if we'll need a Dorema size 10 or 11 please? The handbook says it's 9201mm, (but as previously stated, that's not always to be trusted).

Dorema size 10 is 875-900cm and their size 11 is 900-925cm.

I'm asking this because we now want to get a full size Dorema Air awning for next year, (hubby's decided it's worth the money after all for the extra space which he wouldn't entertain when we switched to the porch awning), but I'm not able to help him do the string measuring thing on our storage site.

I really hope that some lovely ukcs member out there can help

Living in hope.....Hippy Chick

Hi, don't know the size you need , but it is possible to measure the caravan single handed. By sticking string to awning rail with masking tape in a few places. Then mark string at ground level and measure length needed.

Thanks very much for the tip albee, as I said I'm being a bit of a numpty and hadn't even thought of that

If nobody else is able to tell me the exact size because they have an equivalent model caravan to ours, then I shall dispatch hubby plus string and masking tape to the storage site before ordering the new air awning

We are waiting till the end of season before purchasing the awning anyhoo as you never know your luck.....might get a better deal than the current approx. price of just under £1800 for the size we're likely to need. Mind you, that's if we need the size 11, the size 10 is a bit cheaper at £1099 for current price

Thanks again for your help albee
