Hi I'm new to caravanning and have a question about tv reception, if I have a tv a sky box and a portable sky dish will I least get some channels??

We have found we rarely use the sat dish nowadays as since TV changed to digital we get good reception using the caravan aerial

You will get all channels with your box, viewing card and portable dish so long as you can get a clear line of sight to the south (no trees or buildings in the way).

To be honest mate, to us a big part of touring with a caravan is getting away from the TV.

A lot can depend on age. We always take a TV with us. It is useful if driven indoors on rainy days, and there are not acquaintances to join us in the awning or caravan for a drink and a chat; plus we do like to keep up with the daily news.

I agree getting away from TV for a couple of weeks is great, however for those rainy days (that we all get from time to time) a TV is a godsend.

What about using your laptop (if you have one) and watch DVD,s keep up with the news on internet. Works for us we’ve never had a tv in 45 yrs of camping. Love the radio as well.

I have ceased to use my laptop on caravan sites, so don't carry it with me anymore. Have ended up with loads of junk and attempts to trick me into responding to scams.
Simple, straightforward TV for us.

seriously though. just dont click on them. its really simple. you just dont point the mouse at them and dont click. the computer does what you say, not what it wants.

i havent watched tv in about 10 years.

coz its crap.

I don't click on them, gedsjeep. The continual need to erase junk (which doesn't always go to the junk folder) is a pain in itself. I do have another laptop which I don't use anymore. Could use that with a unique address simply for when away, but don't fancy a 10" screen with no HD.

If the weather is bad and there is nothing else to do you can always go to bed early with your loved one. My wife prefers a cup of tea, she says it lasts longer.........Not sure what she means.

I find it quite amazing that when someone asks a question regarding a TV, people post that they never take a TV away with them. Why are they posting this useless piece of information when someone is asking about using a TV?
We take our Sky box away with us and watch many TV programs when we are relaxing in the evenings.

We have found that since digital was introduced, the coverage is a lot better so we rarely use the portable sattelite dish,which also works in N Europe.
We usually take dvds and our tv on our France trips for rainy evenings!
We have the Status aerial which extends up and turns works in most areas in UK.
Probably need the dish in more remote areas such as Scottish Highlands.
There are some free phone apps which can show you which way to align your aerial or dish!

We like to watch TV after a long day of tiring walking and site seeing.

I put together a satellite set up complete with stand, 55cm dish, tuner and so on. Used it once in Lancashire, it worked brilliantly but I found it all too much faff to continue with and it's still on a shelf in the garage 3 years later gathering dust.

We bought a TV with DVD player and USB stick recording. In the UK we watch that. We take a few pre-recorded programs but rarely watch them. I would say that we get perfectly good reception for Freeview on about four out of five UK trips.

We tour in Europe and take the TV along with some recorded progs and DVDs but find that we watch it less and less and I read more books on the trips than in the rest of the year put together. It's not a conscious decision, it just happens that way.

That's how it goes for us
