Our 2 year old van has developed a very smelly fridge. Weve defrosted it and cleaned it out thoroughly even used baking soda which apparently is good for smelly fridges.
I cant get at the filters as its next to a fence but does anyone know if the filters can cause smells
The filters you refer to are actually vents for when the appliance is used on gas only so has no connection with a smelly fridge. However, try using a spray of Dettol Mould & Mildew remover and also clean around the door sealing rubber as that can harbour small particles of spilt milk etc. which then creates a bacteria smell and also clean inside the freezer compartment too.

When workman turned off our freezer in the garage we did not notice for days. Everything defrosted and the smell was interesting. We washed it out with white vinegar and baking soda mixture and left the door open for 7-10 days and all was fine after that. May work for your caravan but leaving the door open when not using is sound advice.
