I am changing my 4x4 from the BMW to a Range Rover Sport and have tried to get towing extension mirrors from Landrover.
However when they ordered some, they wouldn't fit and then said they seem to only fit models to 2014?
A bit ridiculous that I cannot Oder any from LR to fit considering it a car designed to do the job and it's a legal requirement to use extension mirrors,
Can anyone tell me of any extension mirrors (I.e. Milenco models that would likely fit a a Range Rover Sport?
My advice would be to go down your local caravan accessory shop and try before you buy.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I have successfully used Milenco Grand Aeros on a 2015 and 2016 Discovery 4, and on a 2017 and 2018 Discovery Sport.
As sold, the clamps don't grip well, because they're too hard. Milenco sell different clamps for more than twenty quid, but the D3/D4 forum tipped me off that a bit of bike inner tube works wonders.
Indeed, a couple of sections of 700c x 28 tube stretches over the clamps has transformed these, and they're really solid now.
You can just about see them fitted to my current car here (click on image to open):
I have Milenco mirrors. For my VW Touran I had to buy the extra long arms. The space between mirror edge and its body was so tight that the mirrors got pushed out of alignment. I also found that the grips alone are not very secure. Luckily, from an earlier set of mirrors I had kept a couple of brackets and rubber straps. The brackets fit onto the Milenco arms, between the two grippers, and the bracket at the end of the straps are clipped over the bottom edge of the mirror housings.
Now that I have a VW Caravelle, I have found that the mirrors also fit that, subject to adjusting the straps and gripper positions, and the space around the mirror edge allows the grippers to slide in without the mirrors being disturbed.
Frankly, without the modification of the rubber straps, which in effect pull the grippers tighter to the mirror-body lip, I would not trust the Milenco mirrors to remain in place.
Bertie.
I might be going off topic slightly but I wonder why the mirrors on my VW Tiguan are not designed to extend.
i am sure that there are loads of people who buy this car to tow a caravan and if the mirrors extended it would be a great selling point.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
And I'm sure there are loads and loads more people who buy that car and have no intention of towing,so do not want to pay for something......

True so why not offer them as a factory option, or a retrofit option. Save the bother of clip on mirrors and they would also be adjustable from inside as the standard mirrors are.

Factory fit or retrofit towing mirrors on a car?
What about when your not towing, where do the mirrors go then? remember that its illegal to have towing mirrors on your car when not physically towing a van.
What are the implications / penalties from having the mirrors on, but not towing?

Old Landrovers had wing mirrors with an extra joint in the arm so they worked either extended for towing or folded in without a trailer. I'm thinking of the early 1950s so can't remember the exact details
I was thinking of a mirror that extended out away from the car on some form of concertina mounting and came back in to fit in the 20cm rule when not towing.

"To be compliant with the law, anyone towing a caravan must be able to see 20 metres behind them and four metres either side of the towed outfit. In order to meet this requirement, almost all vehicles will need additional towing mirrors and could benefit from fitting a camera.
According to a recent survey carried out by Club Care Insurance on caravan forum Caravan Talk, 95% of caravanners have towing mirrors fitted to their vehicles to ensure they comply with this law. The remaining 5% may be driving vans or larger vehicles that allow them to see this distance without mirrors, but it is possible that they are breaking the law - and potentially risking their lives and those of fellow road users - without realising."
