I am seriously interested in either buying a used tourer or renting one on an annual basis. Intention is to use it as a place for the odd weekend break and do a bit of walking.
Can anyone please advise of the simplest and cheapest way of achieving this?
I am a nurse so finances are very much limited.
Hi,
You may want to post this request on a different forum as more people will see it and be able to offer advice. Try posting to Caravans and Camping.

I'd look for a cheapie on ebay or Gumtree. Loads of bargains around when the season finishes. If you are careful about what you buy, it will almost certainly be cheaper than renting. Another alternative would be to go to caravan dealers and ask if they have any trade sales. These aren't usually put on the forecourt as they deem them "too old".
The thing with "oldies" is that you don't have to worry about depreciation. We paid £500 for a private sale last time, used it for 4 years and sold it for £550 last year. We then went down the trade sale route and bought our current van for £1,100. If it wasn't for the styling you would think it was only a couple of years old. It has everything we could want. We are on a very limited budget too as we are state pensioners.
Are you intending to tow it each time or do you want it on a site.
On a site can be a seasonal pitch where it is permanently sited and set up ready for you to go. This will be quite expensive.
Alternatively, some site will store your van and then tow it out onto a pitch each time you want to use it. You will have to set up and pack up for each break. The storage charges are usually low, they charge a small fee for towing out and back and you will have to pay the pitch fee for teh nights used. This will be cheaper than the seasonal pitch unless you use it a lot.
If you tow each time you will need somewhere to store it, a suitable tow car with tow bar and will have to pay the pitch fees each time.
