I can only assume that the letter writer used to put up an awning and now with their motorhome they don't bother but that's not a fair comparison because a lot of motorhomers use drive away awnings.
As regards onboard water and grey water well they've got to be filled/emptied. A friend of mine uses my aquaroll to refill his motorhome. We have our uses. 😁👍

Hi, we have been caravaners for 11 yrs now, and just mid 40 to early 50's with two children 1 grown up the other 12, so baby when we started. We have progressed through two large awnings, numerous small porch awnings until finally a full size blow up awning, and our set up time is still a good 1.5 to 2 hrs after arriving, our process is:-
Arrive at pitch
Unhitch
Move van with mover into position (cannot reverse do see the point with a mover)
Wind legs down, level van
release mover from wheels
take bikes out of van
take x4 chairs out of van
remove EHU cable and connect
aquaroll and waste hog from bath room
remove awning if in van otherwise back of car.
fill aqua roll and container for the loo wash system
position aqua roll and waster hog
purge water systems
lay awning carpet
insert awning skirt
insert and erect awning |(pump up)
peg out etc.
erect chairs place in awning
erect tv aerial if needed
tune in tv
tidy up
open beer bottle ,and sit down.

Typically clothing would have been put away in cupboards prior to leaving home / storage site.

typically all 1.5 to 2hrs to do all this, i have seen others whom come two chairs out no awning glass of wine, and get jealous, but this is us. I could never leave my awning looking un leveled or even having one which is too big or too small for the caravan..

Don't think we could get it much lower unless we did not take an awning.

TrigGLX, your timing seems about right. But a word of warning. In our younger days we would set out an outfit similar to yours, and do it quite easily inside your time frame. Now into our 80's, and the setting up (and packing up) takes a while longer.
We went from a full awning to an Isabelle Magnum porch awning to make things a bit easier, but it didn't work like that. We tried a simple canopy, but no depth to it and could not sit out with even light rain because the slightest breeze brought the rain in.
Now we are due to test, for the first time, our full length 8 foot wide canopy with removable side windows. Not too keen on the steel poles but, when it is erected and I can measure accurately, I will be making use of a set of Dorema fibreglass poles (modified as necessary) I saved from a previously discarded awning.
Bertie.

When we are staying in one place for a week or more, we like to use the awning, but if only staying overnight or just a few days, we don't bother taking it. Without the awning it's probably about 30 mins from arriving to sitting down with a drink, but with the awning about the same as TrigGLX above. Wish we could do it in less, and we probably could have done 20 or 30 years ago.

We found our current full awning takes no longer to put up than our previous porch, Bertie. The longest of all was the air awning we bought new, used twice, then dumped in our garage. Far too darned heavy, yet the smallest we have had so far. The current one (as in my profile) is certainly the easiest of the 3, and the only one I can put up on my own apart from threading through the awning rail.

That looks very similar to our old Dorema, Colin. For price and life span, it was the best value for money - we only ditched it because we changed the van. A relative used the roof to make a garden sail, and the acrylic windows to repair friends' awnings. Glad we kept the fibreglass poles, though, for reasons already given.
Bertie.

I think they are similar, Bertie. Ours is a Trio, can't remember the model, and it's a great awning. Very strong and well-made. Loads of room, I think we could practically get the caravan inside it! One of our previous porch awnings was a Trio Midi, and we were so impressed with it we bought a Trio full awning when we changed our caravan. The Midi wouldn't fit the "new" van, as the door was in a different position.

Just remembered, it's a Trio Sombrero.

Motorhome may not require connecting to water and waste containers due to onboard tanks BUT they need levelling front to back as well as side to side with ramps or similar. If the pitch slopes in 2 directions all four wheels will need to be at different heights

Setting up is part of the fun.
If you can't be bothered - then just go to a hotel.

If you are really organised you will put some water in the kettle before leaving home. 1st job on site turn gas on and put kettle on, saves waiting for a brew

Absolutely!

Does it really matter how long it takes to set up, normally takes me about an hour and a half in total. Have done it in 30 minutes, once in Brittany in took me about 4 hours between chats, hello’s and beers.

A good friend and work colleague of mine used to boast a 15 minute set up.......So what!

It takes as long as it takes, who cares, your on holiday. 👍😀

Yes, and then it needs doing every time you go off for the day.

When we used the caravan would unhitch and wife would disappear with the car to do shopping and turn up again when the setup was all done and the kettle was starting to boil about an hour or more later
with the campervan plug into ehu if on a site as most hard standing pitches are level only used the levelling blocks once but then we dont care if it is a wee bit off level
