I've just gone to my local tyre fitter to have two new tyres fitted to my caravan, only for him to discover they are fitted with Tyron Bands. Has anybody had tyres fitted with this bands in situ, or do they know of anyone, or companies, that can change tyres fitted with these bands.
I have considered having these fitted, but would certainly go for the DIY tool for removal/replacement. On one forum - could have been here - a poster reported his experience when taking a wheel tom a French garage for a puncture repair.
Apparently the mechanic lost his temper with the Tyron band. When the poster went to pick up the wheel (puncture repaired), the mechanic also handed him the remains of a mangled Tyron band.

I've never had a caravan with Tyron Bands fitted to the wheels but the information I was once given by a local tyre fitting company (when I needed new caravan tyres) was that they charge £15 per wheel extra if Tyron Bands are fitted because of the time involved. However, when I spoke to my service engineer afterwards, he told me that the majority of tyre fitters have the appropriate tool to assist in caravan tyre removal so if any fitters want to apply an extra charge of £30 for the privelage then go elsewhere as many tyre fitting bays don't charge any extra for caravan wheels with Tyron Bands. They try to brainwash customers into thinking that they will have to pay extra wherever they go so they just pay the extra charge which is more likely to be a hidden bonus.
The DIY tool for removal/fitting of the tyre assembles to resemble a large spider, and by winding a handle it compresses the tyre so that the band can be removed, and then the tyre. Refitting requires the tyre to be fitted, then compressed whilst the band is replaced, then remove the tool and inflate the tyre as normal.
It makes sense that tyre fitting firms would have the necessary Tyron band tools, certainly in the UK, but I don't know if these are so well known in mainland Europe.

hi i had tyron bands on my last caravan but when i got my new van i was told not by the dealer but a good tyre fitter i use all the time and he said with these new alloys they have got a higher lip so the tyre dont roll off when you get a puncture cheers .tom
Well I tried all the main companies in my work area, Hi Q, Kwik Fit, Universal but none of them could help me, but surprisingly when I contacted the local tyre company to where I live they said they could do it. But it is time consuming and would cost. The annoying fact is when I originally asked the dealership where I bought it from if they knew of any places, they couldn't recommend anyone, however on calling them back the service manager apologised and admitted that he had forgotten that they could have done it at the dealership, and my van is booked in there for a minor repair under warranty next month.....grrrrrr. At least I've got my new tyres at cost via work discount.
I had several caravans with Tyron Bands fitted. Latterly I discovered that E-Tyres the online tyre company would change tyres with them fitted but they do charge and extra fee. In my view the extra charge is justified having seen the extra time it takes not only to remove the tyre but also to put it back on. I found using a company that came to me was very convenient.
I have a motorhome now but if I were yo go back to a caravan I would think carefully about having a tyre pressure monitor fitted rather than Tyron Bands. Although the bands will help keep the damaged tyre on the rim it gives you no advance warning of a problem. If you monitor the pressures you might well be able to pull over before complete failure?
I needed new tyres earlier this year, and I’m also in Essex. eTyres wasn’t practical for me as the van is in storage, so I rang round various tyre fitters in Chelmsford, and found that Hi-Q Tyres could, and did, fit with Tyron bands.
