We have a brand new Coachman and have had so many problems, some still ongoing, and I am almost ready to give it back. The problem is now everytime I notice something I wonder if it is normal.
My question is, we have a VIP 545, centre bathroom, end bedroom. When I walk past the shower to the bedroom the floor creaks. Is this normal?

Carry on reading if you want to know the full story,
Went to collect van, few snags - screws fallen out of shower rail; split in kitchen door seal; crack in front window; not working off side courtesy light - all fixed before we paid. Went to connect up to take it home and all the caravan lights started randomly flashing! Didn’t take the van that day.
Van back to dealers 5 times as towing lights kept going out, finally found a screw going through a wire beneath the van!
Recently - bed creaks and wakes us at night - bolts tightened and much better.
Current issues- bedroom overhead locker doors scrape on adjacent furniture
Trim coming off shelving
Toilet light full always on
Screws fallen out of shower rail and cooker hob
Bolt beneath front bunk rubbing on water hose
Water running from pump connector backwards on outside of external hose, pump stopped working
Front panoramic blind only opens 1/3rd way
Large skylight flyscreen doesn’t retract so have to clip it open with slack
Kitchen work surface inadequately sealed
Kitchen work top “blown”
Radio can’t pick up signal other than local radio
Front seats collapsed and were replaced
Main door seal split
Magnet to hold main door open fell off
Fridge door has to be lifted to close as does microwave door

OMG.....seeing it all in black and white is screaming “reject”. We have the main engineer from the dealers coming to us (7 return trips so far, now they come to us) to go through everything, fix what he can and order parts for things he can’t. I am waiting for this visit to get his opinion before I throw the towel in and give it back,
One note, the dealers have been very supportive and pulled out all the stops to keep us roadworthy.

Hi

I’m sorry to hear about all your issues. I know how you feel. We have a new 2018 Swift Challenger and I think our list of warranty issues is probably as long as yours and interestingly, even though it is a different manufacturer, some of the issues are the same.

Ours is also the end bedroom mid washroom model and we too have a squeak in the floor when we walk past the shower. I don’t know if this is normal and I have it on the list to be checked out when it goes in for a service in a few months time as I am not prepared to go all the way to the dealer again! We have been there 3 times so far and have had most of our issues sorted out but there are still a few to be done at the service.

I hope you get some sort of resolution and I would be interested to hear what your dealer says about the squeak.

I thought Coachman's were the "bees knees". With such a long list of fairly minor niggles I'd be worrying about what major issues are waiting to happen!

Go on Facebook and join the Coachman Caravans Owners group and see for yourself just how many complaints are posted regarding new Coachman's that people have bought. Amazingly enough though, the ones with older models like mine having nothing but praise for the company so in reflection of that it's evidence that the standards are dropping year on year. It seems like you're much better off parting with half the amount of cash and having far less problems.

These horror stories just make me so glad I paid what I did and bought a 25 year old caravan! The only faults I found with that were so simple I fixed them myself very quickly. If I'd paid out all that money for a new caravan I'd be absolutely fuming if I had as many serious faults as those.

The faults I found on mine were a dud battery, and a popper missing off one of the front curtains. I did this year have to replace both the skylights though, but that wasn't a difficult DIY job.

Best Regards,
Colin
