The hot water can be heated by gas or electric. For electric operation the black rocker switch is on the right side below the seat so when connected up to mains electric, just flick the switch to ON and the red light should illuminate. If it doesn't then you need to check the mains trip switch (MCB) which is normally under the same seat. For gas operation, there is a round dial about 30 mm. diameter which is next to the mains switch which there is an inner and outer dial incorporated for operation. The inner dial switches it ON and the outer is the thermostat. However, make sure there is water in the tank first before switching on the hot water.
