I've slept in awning in early March and I can tell you it is really cold.
If someone is wanting to sleep in an awning the best advice I could give is to possible get yourself one of those small oil-filled radiators and have that in the awning. it wont be able to make it warm, but it should be able to at least make it bearable.

last time i slept in my porch awning, in september, i erected a 4 man dome tent inside the awning and ran an extension cable out to the tent and ran my fan heater in it. it was nice and cosey inside. i have a 4 seasons sleeping bag, sleeping mat and camp bed i use for tenting anyway.

get a good quality down filled sleeping bag eg Mountain Equipment or Rab and a quality insulating sleep mat eg Thermarest, you are potentially winter camping here
The smaller space you are in the better because the air in it will be warmer. If you put a fan or convection heater in there with you, you will be toasty.

I'd put a small tent inside as it's always warmer in a small space. You need a good barrier between you and the floor too. Also, a really good sleeping bag.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.
The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
My kids were wild camping last easter with guides quite high up in the fells and woke to find their tent covered in snow - they survived fine - 4 season sleeping bag, decent SIM (or camp bed), sleeping bag liner and woolly hat.
There are loads of posts in the camping area on winter camping. The tip is not to go to bed cold. If you go to bed warm with a decent sleeping bag you'll stay warm. Also avoid airbeds as they are like sleeping on bags of cold air!!

Hot water bottles are nice too.
You shouldnt need a heater unless you want one
Can confirm the airbed statement, when I slept in the awning I needed two duvets, one under the airbed and one for me.
