Hi all
We ordered a new caravan at the NEC show in October and asked the dealer if we could take delivery in February next year.
This was mainly because we will not be using our current van for its first trip out for 2019 until March next year.
They said this would not be a problem, however contacted me yesterday to say our new caravan (2019 Swift Elegance) build date was later this month.
They have offered to store it at their transporters if I don’t want to take delivery before February, however having my new van stored at a transport yard for two months concerns me., when it could be sitting on my drive.
My issue is that I specifically wanted it after the new year, as it would be registered as a 2019 and not a 2018. They would obviously like me to take delivery in December or it will have to be stored?
We are planning on keeping it for 3 years then trading it in for a Motorhome. Would I lose much on trade in for the sake of taking delivery in December 2018 as opposed to Jan 2019 as effectively a dealer taking it for future trade in would value it as a 2018?
Thanks

I had same problem.Came in December not Jan as requested. However vans are different to cars. if it is a new model you can sell it as a 2019. I can’t remember why . I think it is because models 2019 models start hitting the market in late 2018 and it is acceptable to regard your van as 2019.
I was worried about when I sold mine but I found some info but can’t remember chapter and verse.

2019 models are already being built and lots of people already have one. It doesn’t matter when you take delivery, it’s still a 2019 model.

Hi Pixie
Thanks for the reply , I do accept it is a 2019 model, but I was wondering if the dealer when using their CAP guide for trade in and ask the year of the caravan for pricing, if they are referring to the model year or year registered?
Thanks

yes our van was bought on the 19 dec, and sold to the original owners as being a 2006 van, all the receipts state its a 2006, yet when you look at the cris number it clearly says its a 2005! its not buying a car which could have been sat in a storage yard for around 2 years before making its way to the dealers and getting registered as being brand new (i.e. factory fresh!) but we will still have lost money on it when it comes to sell

We had exactly the same a year ago. Our Elddis was promised for February. It arrived at the beginning of December. I thought it better to take it straight away and put it under a new cover on the drive. After some family problems we did not use it until April, and after the first week's use things started to go sadly wrong, with large parts falling off the ceiling, and cupboards starting to fall of the wall. After some repairs we then took it abroad, when we had many, many more problems with it. Fortunately I notified the dealer each time by email. The 6 months was up while we were away, just the 3rd time we'd used it. Now, 11 months down the line we have finally secured a final right of rejection under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you read this act(the actual legislation is very readable), 6 months is a crucial time limit.

Hopefully you won't have as awful a van as ours, or the dreadful dealers we had to endure, but speaking from very bitter experience, pick it up as late as possible. The clock for CRA only starts ticking the day you take possession of the caravan.

If you specifically ordered your new 2019 van for delivery in Feb 2019, and the dealer accepted your order, then the dealer is obliged to meet YOUR delivery date. If he takes it in early from the manufacturer, he is responsible for its care and to supply it to you in new condition and undamaged.
Bertie.
