My partner and I have just bought a second hand caravan, its a bit dated inside as nothing has changed since it was made in 2001.
The guy we bought it from told as as its an original carpet and coverings it will retain value better ad if we can live with it we are better not changing it.
I would be keen to recover seating and replace the flooring but dont want to de-value the caravan.
yes, seen far to many that have been so called updated when if what was already there was in good condition, clean and tidy I would have been more interested in looking, those that have been updated in such a way if I get my head thr the doorway and see that I would just turn and leave
get the inside thoroughly cleaned, carpets washed, etc etc, ok add a few bits of your own decoration but nothing that cant be removed without any damage happening a few nex cushion covers etc etc and maybe even a carpet runner

You could lift the carpet and fit a new one by way of a carpet fitter or,just get a pro carpet cleaner that can also shampoo the uphostery.
Ive did this with a couple of my vans also sugar soap to clean the walls then polished with armour al which you can get from the like of halfords makes some difference.
The van is in great condition. It's just got a dark green carpet and covers so quite dark. I'm afraid its cosmetic rather than because anything needs replaced
You could always get some new carpet and stretch covers for the seats. That way you could easily remove the covers when you sell.
However, I don't really think it would make much difference to the value either way, unless of course you were thinking of making some really drastic alterations. I don't think it makes much difference to the value with older caravans. A good condition older caravan can be worth more than a newer one in poor condition. If it's in good condition but you don't like the colour scheme, cover it up. Removable stretch covers can make all the difference.

so nothing a couple of fleece blankets in cream and cream runner couldn't improve on then? best bit when grubby can be removed and washed
Our neighbours bought our elderly friends Compass caravan which was eighteen years old and very dated. They had new curtains made, had the seats recovered, new carpet and painted all the woodwork. It looks very modern inside, it is brilliant.
It has definitely increased in value.

that was all fine until you said about the painting bit, paint doesn't stick on caravan "woodwork" as generally speaking it isn't wood! its some cheap veneer stuff that generally peels with age, paint it and the same happens to that too and soon looks a mess
We found a person near us who did carpet binding. It was really cheap too. All you need to do is buy an offcut of hessian-backed carpet, use the old carpet as a template for the new one, cut it out, and then take it to have the edges bound.

They took advice re the painting and the veneer or whatever looks fine. Time will tell.
I would have vinyl fitted and loose carpets . Have it don’t properly x if you don’t want or need seats recovered buy some nice throws and cushions .
Decor is important it makes it nice for you . Same with curtains , I made new curtains for an old van we had as the old were faded . It made such a difference .
Iv been told removing the current carpet and seat covers will cause the caravan to lose value as they are original and in great condition. Thats the only reason I am even questioning it the plan had been to remove carpet and recover seats.

I wouldn't worry too much about losing value. Your caravan is 18 years old, and its value is what someone else is prepared to pay for it. Like mine (built 1992) it is probably well past having a "book" value, but not old enough to be a "classic". Once they get to over 10 years old, their value is an agreed sum between buyer and seller.
If you are still concerned, why not go with my suggestion to get stretch covers? You could also get something to put down over the existing carpet if you don't like it but want to keep it. I would say that it is more important to get it to suit you so that you can enjoy it, rather than worrying about its perceived "value".
