Hi people ☺️ After recently becoming single at 37 I’m determined not to give up my caravanning. I don’t have a problem towing, setting up etc but just wondered if any other ladies are in my position and how they find it. I love the social side of caravanning and don’t want to lose it! Ideas please xx

I used to Caravan a lot as a Solo mum with 5 daughters, due to my husband working away a lot, and being unable to take the time off work to accompany us much. This was mainly back in the 1990s and upto he retired in 2006.
My girls were aged between 3 to 14 at the time, and sometimes the eldest ones would bring a friend along too.
We stayed on family sites, often ones we knew well and had been to before, never wild camped, and stayed within about 125miles of home. People were very friendly and helpfull in general, and we sometimes went away with the Caravan club rallies so we knew other people who were attending from the same centre. We owned a big lightweight Avondale Olympus 5 berth at the time, but we could easily sleep 7, the little ones by toping and tailing on the 7ft long cross double berths, which were situated both at the front and rear of our caravan.

We never used the awning when l was away solo, mainly due to an inciedent involving a peeping tom that happened to us as Tent campers, up on a campsite near Alton Towers, Although we always felt totally safe within our caravan, especially as we used to take our big dog with us most of the time who offered us some further protection with her deep loud bark as gaurd dog during the night.

Not single mum per se but often take the van and my two girls in the van when hubby can't get time off work. Always been fine. Romany girl is right about not don't an awning on your own though. Other than that absolutely fine. Go for it.

I'm also single and regularly go caravanning alone or with my friends (they go in their tents

Most people on sites are happy to help with awnings etc.
