Hi everyone, when we first started with a Tourer, the help and advice given through this group was amazing - constructive, encouraging, and (probably) time/ money saving ... so a BIG "Thank You" to all.

Now - due to health issues and overseas travel - we have taken the decision to sell our van and invest in a new one next year.

However, we are hearing from many, that this is the worst possible time to sell a second hand Tourer.

Is this the case? What experiences have any of you had?

Any feedback gratefully received

Best time is next month onwards so away you go. Take a good set of photos & list on eBay if you like with really good description. Make yourself available for viewing during auction or you can do an eBay classified if you don’t want an auction. eBay will reach the biggest audience.

I would guess anybody telling you this is worst time of year to sell wants you to sell it to them cheap.

We sold our old caravan this time last year and used Autotrader, which had a good response.
We also advertised in Caravan Finder but got no response at all.

I agree with Manny above, the secret is good photos and description which will make you stand out.

Good luck

Thanks Manny - appreciated. I've had similar feedback from several others.

ebay seems to be the most popular site recommended, but I've had a lot of people also warning me to be careful ... not sure why.

Another site mentioned is camping and caravan, also autotrader (which is a surprise!)

I will keep you posted on my efforts with ebay ...

Thanks

eBay is just another sales platform no different from a card in your local paper shop. The important thing is that you do not release caravan until you have been paid. Buyer of course will be equally wary. It helps if caravan is stored at your home address & buyer comes views & does deal at your home address.

If it’s up to about £3k then cash is king but over that you might want to arrange a bank transfer which buyer can do at your home on their phone or tablet.

I used Preloved to sell our caravan for £8,300. Sold within 2 days and buyer went with me to local shopping centre, first to his bank to withdraw in cash then to mine to pay in. Worked really well.

I paid £5 to preloved for membership so I could post extra photos.

So lots of pictures and really good description of all the klit it has etc.

Now is a good time to sell. The dealers are knee deep in 2nd hand due to many trade ins but expect to sell them very soon.

I can but echo the above. We have just purchased out 1st caravan. The season is starting soon so now is as good as any to sell.
Ebay will show it to the bigger audience. I understand the warnings of being careful. I sold a car on there and had all types of people whom were apparently from Ireland or something and would want it shipped over etc. A few scammers on there but far outweighed by the amount or genuine people out there.
Auto trader is decent too along with Preloved and Gumtree. We actually purchased ours from Facebook! So give that a shot too.
Hope this helps you.

Spring is by far the best time to sell, and late autumn, up to Christmas is the best time to buy.

Our last caravan, a 1988 Elddis Tornado, we bought in November, kept it 4 years and sold it in July for more than we paid for it. Our current one we bought in July, but we could probably have got it cheaper if we had waited until November.

Best Regards,
Colin

Bought a lttle caravan today in Highbridge. There were lots of other customers around, maybe the lovely weather has brought the season forward a bit?

Agree that this is the best time to sell, in fact that applies to a lot of things. Houses/tents/cars and caravans.

Also agree that need to take care if selling privately. I've sold a few cars over the years and would recommend Navver's advice. Take them to their bank and then yours before watching your 'van being pulled away. Honest people won't mind doing that, just make it clear when first talking too them. I'd rather do this than take a bunch of (Possibly fake) £50 or £20 notes.

Well speaking from my resent experience. I sold my Elddis Wisp last week on Facebook Marketplace. Advertised at 7am viewed, paid for and gone by 11am. I then had to e-mail 4 other people who where coming to view to tell them it had gone.

Also make sure if you are having people viewing it that you have all the security devices fitted and point them out, some 'buyers' are only there to see if could be stolen easily! As others have said, do not let it go until the cash is in your bank not your hand, it could be forged. Good luck with your sale and with the new caravan. We bought a new caravan, after four years of constant faults it was part exchanged!
