Hi all
Collected caravan from dealers after having some warranty work done,
The dealer put a printed A4 sheet of paper with my name on it in front window. When I arrived home I removed the paper but it's left a residue of glue on the window, does anyone know the best way to remove it, wife suggested nail varnish remover or white spirit but I'm not sure if this will damage the window,

i would avoid nail polish remover but white spirits is worth a try.. wd40 might do it or meths..

Give the dealer a call, tell him what has happened and follow his advice. Hes the one who has made this mess, so its upto him to fix it.

If you try to remove it yourself, easpecially on Plastic windows, and fail, he will hold you responsible for the cost of the repair.

I would not risk using any of the chemical methods you mention above on Plastic windows.

We had exactly the same problem on daughter's caravan. The dealer told us to use Mr Sheen and it worked a treat.

Normally, white spirit is the best solution to remove sticky substance but you have to be cautious on acrylic windows and clear plastic as it will dull the patch where applied making it slightly frosted. I know from experience as I cleaned a piece of flat clear plastic once (not on a caravan) and that's how I found out what the end results were. I would be inclined to use Auto Glym window polish (not the window spray) which is a bit like the old pink Windolene cream except it's white but does the same job. If that fails to remove 100% I would suggest WD40 as mentioned previously but just apply a small patch first right in the corner first.
I've never used Mr Sheen (as mentioned above) but if you have some in the house then try that first and see if it removes the sticky substance.

Whatever you do don't use nail polish remover...it turns plastic opaque as I once discovered on a brand new washing machine door!

I find WD40 removes sticky stuff from most things without causing harm but wash it off afterwards...as always recommended...try a small area first.

Thanks everyone will try the Mr Sheen first as that seems the less abrasive if that fails will try WD40, was reluctant to try nail polish remover & white spirit in case it damages the window
Will try it on Friday ( working tomorrow not back till late ) will let you know if it's been successfull then

try elbow grease. Honestly, that is its real name.
Its yellow, comes in a squirty bottle and does everything like that. We used it to get the glue and last bits of sticky pads off the number plate and bumper. worked a treat.
Only about a pound too. places like home bargains and b&m sell it.

we are talking a solvent here not some abrasive polish..

white spirits being the most obvious one.. just something that dissolves the dried glue residue..

just try a small patch it will be obvious if the right solvent is being used.. some solvents like nail polish remover will likely damage the plastic..

with the right solvent the dried glue residue will just gently wipe off..

We have a sticky mark on the outside of our caravan where a label has clearly been removed and I asked on another group for advice about removing it. Some of the gentler suggestions that people say have worked for them are baby oil, walnut oil, wd40 or furniture polish. I am going to try the walnut oil when we go down on Wednesday as we have some of that in the house already. Then make sure it is well washed off afterwards.

Definitely don’t use nail polish remover. A number of years ago I was moved to a new office in work and my extension number moved with me. In the new office, the previous resident had written their extension number on the plastic phone with permanent marker. I used nail polish remover to try to get it off and it actually slightly melted the plastic!

To remove the residue from gaffa tape, I use a Citrus label remover, in aerosol tin form, used to buy it from Maplin, but now get it from CPC in Preston, around £3 a tin which lasts for ages.

Baby Wipes. No idea what they put into those things but it's amazing the things they clean. Makes you wonder if their really safe for baby bums :)
