Hi, if your toilet is the bench type Thetford C3 then yes I guess at that age a lip seal could do with changing its an easy job. As for the gauge I guess it's become displaced inside, this can happen if it's shaken to vigorously during cleaning. I wouldn't worry about it as if I leave ours until gauge indicates it's full it's so heavy to move and empty. I just go by sight when flushing when it looks to be about one and half inch From top I empty it.

The seals are both cheap and so easy to replace that doing so makes complete sense.
I would, however, alter your modus operandi by opening the blade at least enough, during use, to not expose the seal to a fluid head, as you are fortunate your leak was into the cassette, not the enclosure.
Whilst the seal "should" hold fluid in the bowl, it can easily leak so IMO why not simply use a practice that eliminates that risk.

Without getting too personal about it, I always open the blade when peeing - I thought everyone did!
This is exactly what I do, as soon as I get set up on site I open the blade and leave it open throughout the stay and only close it once its back at the storage site.

the blade is there to keep potentially offensive smells out of the caravan.. not using it defeats the purpose of having one..

Erm...........isn't that the job of the chemicals that goes into the toilet?
Also I only allow number ones in the toilet so smells should really be much of a problem for me (I have to empty the thing and I'm not carrying other peoples number twos)
