Hi all

So short story. My house is getting a bit crowded so im considering a mobile caravan to part live in.

I will still be using the kitchen and bathroom in the house so I wont be using the caravans unless travelling.

I'll pretty much be using it as a living room/bedroom.

My main questions/concerns are -

Damp - Will there be more chance of being some with me using it all year round?

Health issues - Are there health problems could arise?

Comfort - Will I be happy enough in a caravan rather than a house?

Any side notes will be appreciated :)

This most likely will be for a couple of years.

Also any advice on which mobile caravans to look for that will be well equipped for the whole year for under £3000?

Thanks in advance

Steven

you wont have any problems.. still using the house kitchen and bathroom helps.. he he

not a bad idea using a caravan as an extension to an over crowded house to be honest

Was the argument that bad?

There should be no problems as long as it is well ventilated.

Yeah i would prefer to live where I am but I could be waiting a good while before a flat arises so caravan sounds good (obviously depends on the laws on staying in caravans)

No arguments...yet! 😂

Cheers for the advice

The laws may affect it.
If it's on the private land where the house is it will be OK as long as there are no covenants in the deeds forbidding it. Even then it's Ok as long as no-one complains.
If it's in the road outside you might have a problem. Again Ok as long as no-one complains.

You will probably want an electric connection from the house so this needs to be done in a safe way. Cable needs to be routed so as not to be tripped over or damaged in any way. Also needs to be careful not to overload it. The socket it is plugged into in the house needs to have RCD protection and strictly speaking should not be earthed via the house PME system if the house is. Should be a separate earth rod.

Its private property and I cant imagine anyone complaining about it then again the people around me are nice and get along with but one little thing they dont like and all hell brakes loose. Thats just small village drama for you lol

I will have an electric connection to the house and my cousin or neighbour (both qualified electricians) will sort that out for me

my van is parked in my back garden with power connected to the house.. i just use a normal long wind up extension reel which plugs in the outside toilet.. which i also use to power anything else that needs outside mains power..

i put a large plastic carrier bag over it to water proof it when connect to the van.. maybe not the technically correct way to do it but it works for me..

someone could live in it quite easily.. more so with access to the house facilities..

i dont see any problems at all..

The issue is that the regulations do not permit a supply derived from a PME installation to be connected to a caravan. This is a because a lost neutral in the electricity boards supply cable can result in the body of the caravan becoming live and no protection protecting it. In a house we create an equipotential zone by installing lots of bonding. You cannot create an equipotential zone between a caravan and the earth outside.

Maybe a small risk and for someone parking the van alongside the house and using the EHU for battery charging etc only and only occasionally entering it the risk is much reduced. However, if someone lives in it full time the risk is much increased due to the number of times they enter or leave it.

If a qualified electrician is sorting it then it will hopefully be done correctly.

All of that electro babble went right over my head but I get the gist of it.

Like I said though I'll get my cousin or neighbor to look into it and see what options I have. maybe could be just an extension reel, already have one set up from the back bedroom to the shed
