Having not had a caravan for over 9 years, last one being a swift challenger 400se we left a deposit yesterday on a 2011 Sprite Finesse. (we prefer smaller 'vans) Since our last caravan we have gone through a couple of motorhomes & currently a campervan but have finally realised after much deliberation & expense, that it's a caravan that suits us best.
We've had some great times in our various campers, waking to some lovely locations when camping wild, & these are the bits we'll miss the most but weighing up the pro's & con's for us this is a sacrifice we are willing to take to get back to what we enjoy most in camping.
Just goes to show that sometimes you have to experience everything to find what suits you best.
Will be frequenting this part of ukcs more from now on & who knows maybe get to meet one or two of you, (Anyone going to Shackerstone??).

Hi, hope you love your new van when you get it and get back into the swing of things with it. We too have had everything from a tent to TT's to FC's and finally happy with our caravan. Maybe a motorhome in our old age when we no longer want to tow anything.

We went from caravanning to a motorhome, We had it for four years and had some lovely holidays but it wasn’t for us and our now happy with our caravan.
It’s horses for courses.
Motorhomes have some advantages, but for us it has to be a caravan. We can leave it on site when we go off in the car exploring or shopping, and when we aren't using it we can park it at home and it costs us nothing until we want to use it again. It needs no MOT, no tax, and insurance costs are next to nothing.
A motorhome would be another vehicle to tax, insure and MOT. It would also cost a lot more to maintain than a caravan, which would be a big problem for us now that we are retired. Horses for courses, as Path20 says.
