Just a question, how many of you on here have a seasonal pitch?how do you find it for you?is it good value leaving your van already set up for when you get to your site, any hassles?thank you all in advance.
Don't have one now, did it twice on different sites. Enjoyed it both times. Was it value, not really unless you can use it a lot. Worried about the awning when the weather was bad. Got fed up after seeing all that interested us in the area. Usually very clicky. But it may suit you, you won't know unless you give it a go.Back touring for us for the last 5 years, enjoying every site we visit.

Hi, don't have seasonal pitch but for last couple of years have stored and camped. Will take caravan at Easter and fetch it back in autumn, after 1st holiday just put awning and stuff loosely in caravan drive off leaving on pitch site staff put in to store and back on pitch ready for when you arrange to return. Do this due to wife,s illness otherwise would still be touring as normal. We use different sites last year was Cornwall this year is Devon. Works out much cheaper than seasonal pitch and is very similar way of doing it.
We've just started our second year on a seasonal pitch, and have found it great for getting more use out of the caravan! The site we're on allows for the awning to be left up full time (many don't) which means when we arrive it's simply a case of connecting electric, water and waste before we can start relaxing.
We did also take the caravan off site for 1 week for a holiday in different location, obviously that week you end up paying another set of site fees!
Is it worth it financially... depends on how much you use it! If we divided the pitch fees by the number of nights we stayed, it's probably quite expensive, but for the convenience of being able to grab short weekends without all the hassle of setting up/putting down then it's worth every penny in our opinion!
I have just bought my caravan as plan to tour in it next year but for this year I paid for a seasonal pitch whilst I’m learning about it all and getting used to it. I have towed before years ago and am fairly happy with that but as others have said my caravan is just a 2 hour drive away and I can whizz up to it for a short weekend which I probably wouldn’t have done if I was towing and booking and setting up.
I’m a single caravanner and the seasonal pitch means my (older) kids will use it too :)
We have been on a seasonal site/pitch for 14 years. We have only ever used March to end of October (option) not really bothered with the winter (store the van in doors to give it a break from the elements). We can put the awning up for the whole season. We choose to put it up Easter weekend and take it down end of September (to avoid March winds and October storms). As mentioned in a previous post. We arrive turn the water on and connect the electric as we are on a serviced pitch. We are about an hour’s drive away from home.
We have taken the van off for a couple of week’s holiday each year to Somerset, Devon and or Cornwall.
Is it good value for Money? We think so, as the sites we have used have been excellent value and we haven’t paid some of the very high rates that you now find sites charging. We use almost every weekend (Friday to Sunday sometimes include Mondays). Last year’s wonderful summer was fantastic, hopefully we will get more of the same this year.
I couldn’t get home from work on Friday evening hitch up, tow to a site, arrive at about 7-8 o’clock in the evening. Have to get set up (then food an hour or so later). Enjoy a relaxing day on Saturday. Get up early on Sunday morning to be off the site by 10 or 11:00 am and then drive home and put the van away. That seems like a lot of hard work ones day break (even with a mover fitted on my van). But I do respect those that do this most weeks of the year. Just my opinion
Our 4th year on a seasonal pitch. We spend every weekend and BH at the van along with a couple of full weeks. We never tire of the area. Snowdonia is stunning and we spend most of our time walking with the dog. In terms of value for money, if you want to break it down to cost per night then it probably falls on the low side of pitch fees due to the number of night we use it but we just call it money well spent. Like alan29, best thing we have ever done with the caravan.
We have a seasonal pitch. It’s our second pitch -we were in Northumberland last year. Now we’re in North Yorkshire.
We like the ease of having it ready for us and no hassle setting up or towing last thing on a Friday night after work. It’s not cheap but it does mean we get to actually use our van!
