From Start Rescue T&C's,
Caravans and Trailers
In the event of a breakdown and a caravan/trailer is attached, providing the caravan/trailer is fitted with a standard 50mm tow ball coupling hitch and does not exceed 7 metres/23 feet in length (not including the length of the A-frame and hitch), we will arrange and pay for the caravan/trailer to be recovered with the vehicle at no extra cost.
That seems very odd.
It isn't as though they can take the A frame off of the 'van, so why do they discount it when discussing the max van length?
I presume it's because the legal towing limit (7 Metres) is based on the body length of the caravan, and "A" frames can vary. That's only a guess though.

A few years back I needed to get cover including Europe. My first inquiry showed about 12 providers that would cover car and caravan.
When looking closer there were only two that provided the cover that I wanted.
The problem I faced was the van size-its the shipping length NOT the body so my 7.2m van was too long, and all other providers would only recover the van IF it was attached.
Might sound a bit OTT till you are told that some people have been refused recovery of the van as it ws not attached when the car broke down.
The one I read about was a guy in Italy and the car was parked next to his van!
The two options were caravan cub and Safeguard, which I went with.

We have joint silver membership with AA which gets me or the missus fixed or home anywhere in the U.K. with the caravan and also includes homestart. Price has just jumped from £140 per year to £280 per year even though we haven't used it.
This happens every year with me countering it with an "I'm not paying that" phone call where they usually offer it at last year's price but this year best they could offer is £179.
Are they any better deals to be had out there?
All we really need is to know that we'll be brought home along with the van in an emergency.
We have cover from the caravan club Mayday Green flag, just renewed it at £89. if you break down & if it can not be sorted,if on the way to a prebooked site they will take your car & caravan to the site, & will bring the car or Caravan back to your home or to the repairers,
we had the turbo go near Exeter & they took us to our site in Cornwall & back home after the holiday, worth every penny of joining.
My experience is the same as kiters.Mayday have helped us like twice. No problem.
The engine on our Land Cruiser “blew” and they towed us to the site. However we only stayed a few days as all we did was worry about the car problem.Green Flag then took us and the caravan home and the car to a garage near home.
On the second occasion we were towing a trailer and they took us home and garage for car.(Land Cruiser engine aagain!)
Caravan Club Mayday for me as well.Had to use them twice.
A blowout on the caravan on the Avonmouth bridge.
And caravan recovered from Cromer to Beverley due to a lighting fault on the car.
Well worth every penny even though i have free cover for the car with Mitsubishi.
We're with QDOS Breakdown. www.qdosbreakdown.co.uk . Costs less than £40 including caravan cover. Thankfully never had to test them yet, but seem a reasonable company.
We went with autoaid in the end after much deliberation.
We called start rescue but they came across as amateurish and unsure of their own services.
It was around £60 for both of us nationwide with homestart so a third of the price of the AA.
Hopefully won't need to use it.
As a precaution I'm carrying a trolley jack now in case of a puncture. It seems that all of them will only recover your van if the car breaks down, not attend a van issue but still don't mind in order to bring cost of cover right down.

Mayday will come out if there's a problem with the van,I had a problem with the mover, 30 mins later we were back on the road, it's Mayday for me.
We did enquire with mayday but you have to be a caravan club member which we're not so would've had to add the joining fee on which would've crept the price back up towards AA.

I think you must have got through to a trainee or a new-starter or something. I have only had to call them out once, but I have spoken to them on the phone a few times and always found them very friendly, helpful, and professional. Oh well, these things happen and we can only speak as we find. Different people will have different experiences.
