Anyone have any solar powered radios they would recommend, just simple one for camping odd nights

Just a view point:

I have not a solar radio, but if it is just odd nights of use is there any need, merit or advantage, to be gained over buying a conventional battery powered unit?

Conventional radios compete with each other so much any should be good value, a solar powered one is novel and that must come at a premium cost, most likely way over the cost savings on the batteries needed for the few nights in question.



Edit: I have and would suggest you look at "AA" battery powered radios, here again the competition in the supply of "AA" batteries is so feirce they can't but be good value, ie avoid those with more novel batteries as PP3 etc where I suspect power for power things work out dearer.

There are a few solar power radios around, but if you want to be 'green' and battery free have you considered a 'wind up' radio? They were very popular a few years back. Now there seem to be a few '3 way' (battery/solar/wind up) radios available, some seem ideal for camping as they have built in torches and USB charging points for phones etc. Can't say I have experience of any of them to be able to recommend, but the wind up option looks appealing to me as the Sun doesn't always shine enough to make solar panels that effective.

You can always use one that takes AA or similar batteries and use rechargeable batteries. Yes batteies more to buy initially but can be recharged many times at home or if power supply available.
Better for environment too.

I used to have a couple of Roberts radios that were wind up or solar, they worked well but it was a lot of years ago, pre DAB
