Our neighbours have a total wind break enclosure round their pitch, fine. But that means their wind breaks are so close to our van we can barely walk to aqua roll. My problem is it is really windy here and wind break is wobbling all over and going to hit our van with wooden poles. I keep knocking them further down. But what is the etiquette, do I ask them to take them down till high winds pass?

Potentially awkward depending on how tetchy or anal your neighbours are, but politeness is likely to win cooperation over any other approach. If that fails you've lost nothing, you can complain to site manager, and/or move offending item from 'your' pitch, as good relations with your neighbours don't exist anyway.

You could point out the general (and legal I believe) fire regulations on fire-breaks between pitches, which is 6m gap between main tents/caravans with 3m gap for cars, pup tents etc. on pitch, so I think a wind break almost touching your van is probably breaking that rule, after all it is made from an inflammable material and would transmit fire to your van.

Most windbreaks are not expected to be used in anything more than a breeze, so if the wind is blowing it down, your neighbours shouldn't be using it any way. Bit of a misnomer calling them 'windbreaks' because they can't cope with wind, they really are 'privacy screens'. Not unreasonable to ask them to remove them whilst the wind is blowing them down as they pose a damage risk to your caravan.

I think it's reasonable for you to be able to access your aqua roll unhindered in the first place, if you are both pitched correctly and the site management is on the ball, there shouldn't be an issue.

Hi monty15, thankyou. Agreed with everything you said. Neighbours not in so asked site wardens advise who immediately saw the problem and took it all down. He said when neighbours get back if they ask to refer to site wardens if they have a problem. Fingers crossed they understand though.

That does seem incredibly close to me. I would have thought that they shouldn't be that close in the first place. As Monty says, 6 metres is the usual rule, so I would have thought next-door's windbreak should be at least 3 metres away from the side of your van. Maybe the site is a bit too lax in enforcing the regulations and is allowing closer pitching than they should. Or maybe next-door's windbreak was actually on your pitch?

That is why club sites have a car-caravan-awning rule set up. Also as stated the fire hazard with being too close. P.S. also not the content i was expecting

Me neither Bob!

C&CC sites don't always stick to that Bob, it depends on the individual site. I use their sites a fair bit and I have often parked my car next to the awning. As long as there is 6 metres between, some sites don't mind. However, it may be different if you use hardstanding pitches which we normally avoid. We also prefer sites where caravans are sited at random and not in uniform straight lines.

we had as similar issue last year ....We were sat having an evening meal in our awning...enjoying the view of the sea when it suddenly went very dark...not a rain storm etc but a touring caravan arriving on the next pitch bearing down on us as we ate....Gent of a certain age ( over 75 ) parked his caravan 18 inches from our awning window despite being metres of space on ''his pitch''... I know he exact measurement because he refused to move his caravan until ;-
1) I measured the distance with a tape and showed him it. 2) He un hitched his car and then said '' my motor mover doesn't work'' 3) ''Oh dear - the tyre on my jockey wheel is flat'' - with a grin on his face.
4) ''we like a view of the sea on an evening ! '' - he says !!!

so with the help of our friends - we moved his van while he and his wife stood grinning - repeatedly saying ''there was nothing bring with where it was thats where we always site it !'

I reminded him of the 6m safety rule and he informed me that he had been caravanning for 40 years and had never heard such rubbish ! ...

You know the moment when you really want to put some on their backside ???

He stayed for about a week --- staring at my wife and I through the window opposite our awning and each time we had a meal inside the van he came round to remind us that we weren't even using our awning and had just been ''difficult'' and that we had spoiled his holiday....His wife jumping up and down each evening watching TV certainly wasn't upset although she never appeared during daylight...

The simple use of a famous English phrase involving sex and travel seemed to work and he never bothered us again !!
