I have just submitted a review of our recent stay at the Normanhurst Court site near Battle, when it occurred to me that we seem to have liked every single site that we have stayed on! I guess that this is probably because the location is more important to us than the facilities, as we have certainly stopped on a wide range of sites, particularly in Europe. All we want is hot water in the showers and EHU. Not exactly your average, discerning camper!

Or maybe because you select the type of sites you like to stay on so rarely find one you're disappointed in.
We too enjoy a range of different site types, use reviews to check them out in advance and are rarely let down - or maybe we're just not that fussy!!!
I haven't ever given anywhere a really bad review either. We've usually got a pretty good idea what sites will be like before we get to them and usually just drive on if they look unappealing when we get there.
Sounds to me like it's all down to research. If you do your research on the site you are going to, you shouldn't be disappointed when you get there. It's all so much easier now thanks to the internet.
Like JoannaLesley, all we want is a site with EHU, clean toilets, and decent showers. We avoid sites with "all facilities" like entertainment, playgrounds, bars etc, as they are more likely to be noisy and expensive. Not for us!
Review: It was raining and we needed the toilet, never going again.
The toilets/showers were over 50 feet away, not going again.
People were playing music and having fun all night, I didnt get to sleep until 9pm. Avoid this site.
It's about what you expect and what you will tolerate, all I want are clean toilets/showers without a massive queue and a nice water temperature in the showers.
I check to see if there is toilet paper before i use them which avoids that issue, same with soap etc.. Be prepared.
Im there to relax and most things float by without a care.
May have left a poor review some years back where the toilets were always filthy and the wife often found boys in the ladies toilets.
That's what I love about this site. I never go anywhere new without checking reviews on here first!! The one time I didn't is the one time I had to leave a bad review afterwards...Lesson learned!!
The only on site facilities I require is a throne to sit on for my morning ablution, somewhere to empty my grey water and my toilet cassette. I often spend weekends on redundant WW2 airfields where the only facilities are "thunderboxes", perfectly adequate
I use the toilet in my caravan for a wee and also use the shower in my caravan
We did our research on a site we stayed at in Dorset even asked the owner the rules etc but when we got there he suddenly came up with no groundsheets in awnings. If the grass had been well cut it would have been bearable but it was past ankle lenth and full of thistles so sitting in awning was a no go so not for us again
Like JoannaLesley we've stayed on a wide range of sites, both at home and abroad. When we started caravanning 11 years ago we were pretty happy with most sites we stayed on, with the exception of a couple of real stinkers. But I find that as we've got older, (we're now 71) we've become a bit more fussy, which is a shame - I find I'm not able to enjoy basic facilities as much as I used to!
We've never found a Caravan Club site we didn't like, as you know they'll all be of a similar reasonable standard, but some French sites leave a lot to be desired. Why do so many of them have no toilet seats, paper or hand dryers? It doesn't seem a lot to ask! We've found that sites in Spain are generally better.

To add... we are in our late 60s, and, on the whole, dislike the Caravan Club kind of site, but are perfectly happy with no loo seats and take-your-own loo roll practices of French sites. Indeed, we expect them to be like that. All we want are facilities which are clean and work properly. We prefer EHU wherever we are, but otherwise it is all down to location.
Having said that, we quite often use CC sites in the UK as we are members, but prefer the more relaxed ones.
