Hi guys,
Last weekend we pulled the caravan out for the bank holiday weekend and we noticed this on the roof, I hope it’s not a faulty seal and that’s damp, it is stained but has a light blue tinge to it ?

I have a photo but not sure how to upload it as this site is asking for web address however the photo is on me phone ?

Really could do with some of your advise

Can you not add the photo to your gallery as you have three other pictures, or is one of too big a data size as it is on the phone?

Not the finest pic but looks like a damp stain to me. Is there any warping of wall boards or signs of damp there?

Likeliest source is a roof light / Heiki roof window. Is it near a roof light?
If it’s raining, you need to act quickly!

Need to identify source. Is it close to the roof light? That’s the roof window? Might need resealed.

Answer questions above and we’ll try to help

Unlikely once leak sealed. Inner boarding may . There should be some insulation in between inner and outer panels.
Once leak found you should be able to dry it out.

Looks like you have a leak. Flat roof caravans have always been a problem. The most likely source will be the joint/seam between the alloy roof panel and the plastic front panel. The joint has a alloy cap strip screwed in place. The problem occurs when water pools on the roof and gradually penetrates the joint. The good news it can be fixed. A temporary quick fix run a bead of sealant down each side of cap strip to prevent further damage. Secondly set caravan with a cross fall to guide water away from faulty cap strip. Your pictures would indicate the leak is fairly recent so damage may be minimal. To test press gently on the stained areas for firmness of the panel. If the leak is severe the timber roof cross battens rot in your case this looks unlikely. The battens can be tested by removing the ceiling cover strip this clips off to expose staples or screws securing the backing strip. A sewing needle pushed in with pliers or a thin screw to test for firm wood. A full and permanent repair will be to remove the alloy cap strip on the roof and reseal usually with butyl sealing tape. It should be noted the screws will not hold if the roof batten is softened by rot. The internal panels may dry leaving the van useable and time to assure the leak has been cured. Should staining remain or the panel be soft it will need to be replaced this will entail removing top lockers and ceiling panel. I repaired caravans for a living those with a boat roof or one piece alloy roof that extended down the front and back panel ensured water could not dwell on the seam. Hope all goes well do the temp repair asap to stop further damage.

That last feedback is fantastic thank you, luckily the retailer where I brought her from less than 2 years ago - I have a 2 year warranty inc damp as long as I have kept up yearly services which I have.

She’s all booked in
