We pull a Swift Lifestyle 450/2 MTPLM 1170 - we use a Ssangyong Korando SE 2.0 2WD kerbweight 1666kg and we struggle on hills yet our friends have a similar weight caravan and use a Ssangyong 4x4 2.2 and have no problems whatso ever, I'm now wondering if we should be looking at the BHP of the engine?
On paper our car should pull the caravan we are also careful on loading etc, hubby experience driver.
Any thoughts!
Best look at the following website to compare your van against your car and other cars, its a really good site, though sometimes some models of vans aren't available.
Thanks Shaggy 2000 did a check up on this site( previously ccc & towsure) similar indications. We pulled out last van smaller lighter with this car/SUV since then we've had all new tyres(last person used budget🥺) & new back brake discs so I'm feeling hopeful we won't have a problem, specially now I used another site👍
We are on our second Korando and have not had any problems towing 1500 kg so you should be fine with an MTPLM of 1170.
I have heard of problems with seized rear calipers so I would get that checked first. I might also check the actual weight of the caravan and make sure that the caravan brakes are adjusted correctly.
Rob and Tina, thanks for input. We thinking might be okay as we've not pulled this caravan up the hills but we have had it serviced & we've have ours rear brake discs done 🤞!
Hi we have Ssangyong Korando 2.0 2wd 2015 plate it easily tows our xplore 574 with 1310 mtplm. Meant to able to tow 2 tonnes according to manufacturers guide book. We keep tyres checked and always replace them when nearing the legal tread limit. We have also had to replace the disks on the brakes. It has never struggled up hills and gives a smooth stable tow. I am sure you will find it handles hills no problem.
Thanks everyone, feeling more confident about our trip at end month. Brakes have been sorted & as I said not pulled up these hills with this caravan we see how she goes, brilliant on flat & motorways. Cheers everyone 😊
One mans "struggles on hills" is another mans "no problems at all". It's very subjective.
Hitching over a ton of caravan on the back will make a huge difference as to how it goes up hills. You have to expect it to feel very different to how it feels with no caravan.
