Have you considered your driving licence? is it a 'B' or 'B+E'? If a 'B' then the GVW on the car VIN plate and plated mtplm of caravan added together, should be no more than 3,500kg.

Refer to the cars handbook for these:
Kerbweight - its been a very long standing recommendation that the MTPLM (more below)of the caravan should not be more than 85% of the kerbweight. This is a recommendation, not law.
Maximum laden weight (MAM) or some similar term describing the maximum allowable weight of the car fully laden (different terms in use by different car makers).
Maximum braked trailer weight - this is the MTPLM the car maker has specified the car can tow - not to be exceeded.
MTPLM:
There is a plate by the caravan main door, and/or a sticker in the front locker, or a plate on the A frame on older vans when the term was Gross weight. Maximum Total Permissible Laden Mass (catchy name)is what is says - the maximum laden weight - not to be exceeded.
Add Car MAM to the caravan MTPLM - together these must not exceed the 3500Kg on your licence. Note you cannot get round this by putting less in either vehicle - the plated weights must be observed.

you need to refer to YOUR CARS vin plate this is the info you need not handbook or anything else and certainly not whats on the caravan (yet) this is the info that the police will use and your insurance company, if you cant figure out the vin plate then put the details on here and we will let you know exactly what weights you are allowed, and yes the 85% is only a guidline for new towers but its advice that is still good to follow for good reason, people concern themselves far to much is making sure that the car/caravan will get moving but its also got to be remembered that you need to stop it all safely too

You need the details off the weight plate inside the car door. You may find the max towing weight decreases due to carrying passengers and luggage eg the max weight may be 1180kg if the car is unladen apart from the driver. Citroen are notorious for publishing the weights in this way which is very confusing.

That's just the VIN. It's the details on the VIN plate that is needed. Perhaps if you take and post a picture of it. It will have various weights and the paint code etc stamped or printed on it.
