I have a Eddlis golden Jubilee 2002 van plugged into the mains as my boy wanted to camp out last night the thing is all the correct switches were put on but none of the lights would come on the DC voltage meter was at Zero but the plug sockets worked, I’ve checked all the fuses and there’s all ok I’ve checked the trip switches and there all on but just can’t see what’s going on it’s really bugging me so any help would be greatly appreciated as were supposed to be going away in it in 3 weeks thanks all , I’ve also changed the fustian the power cable also bulbs are ok what I can see it’s just the dc voltage meter at zero is throwing me

Have you checked the leisure battery? Are the lights 12 volt? Do the other 12 volt bits work eg the water pump?

I took a picture of the dc volts meter and the temp light working on my profile as I can’t add pics to this thread if that’s any help

Definitely sounds like a fuse to me. The only curious thing is that the water pump works even though the volt meter is at zero. The socket outlets will work if the mains is plugged in as they are purely 240 volt. Maybe the water pump is running off the charger?

I would look for a blown fuse somewhere, maybe under a seat. Disconnect the mains then see if the water pump still works. If it doesn't then it must have been running off the charger.

If the voltmeter isn't registering I would think it's a fuse very close to the battery.

Hi mate thsnks for getting back to me ive checked all the fuses under the seat where they are housed but all are ok ive changed the fuse in the extension cable also even the fuse in the power socket which was a 10amp but was told i could test it with a 13amp apparently but will unplug the power mains when i get home tonight and see if the pump n things work cheers agsin for grtting back to me mate

The problem is definitely on the battery side rather than mains, so we can rule out the mains lead, plug fuses, mains sockets, and the mains circuit breakers. If you have a test meter you could try checking directly across the battery terminals. If you have power there, check if you have 12 volts at the input to the fuse block. My guess is that there is a hidden fuse somewhere between the battery and the other fuse block/panel. This will be a main battery fuse. If you can, try following the wiring from the battery box inside the caravan.

We had something similar. If all the appliances that can be used when not on hook up work ie those that can be used on battery it could be the charger. Easy for someone with electrical knowledge to check and our was just unplugged and a new one plugged in.

Just checked the battery and its flat bit still doesnt amswer the fact why the lights were not working when plugged into the mains all yhe fuses have been checked and are ok but it seems the orange power lead comes inti the van then into the motor mover then where ever after that

Ah! That changes things.

The orange mains lead may go into the battery box, but it doesn't (or shouldn't) connect in any way to the motor movers. They work directly off the battery. The mains inlet socket should connect to the consumer unit which supplies the sockets and the battery charger. If the battery is flat and nothing 12 volt works when plugged into the mains, it suggests that the battery charger isn't working. Its either not switched on or it is defective.

Got the mains plugged in with everything else unplugged and switched of see if the battery charges over night if not my mates going to bring his battery charger over with him after work , we looked under the bench and saw a silver box which he thinks might be the battery charger , are they prety much standard of specific to the model as mine is nearly 17 years old if it is broken

Don't worry about the age, my caravan is 10 years older than yours.

That silver box probably is the charger if its near the battery box. Even if you can't get the exact same charger as yours, there will be plenty more that could easily be adapted. They are all 12 volt chargers after all. See if your battery charges overnight, and if it doesn't you may have to replace the charger. Its quite an easy job, and I don't think it's that expensive either.

Thank you colin you have been a massive help will look tonight when i get home to see if the battery has charged it not, just a quick question if the battery has drained totslly flat would thst effect the mains charging it? I woukdnt of thiught so but were new to all this caravaning see

We were all new to caravanning once Dylan, and there is always something new to learn, believe me. We never stop learning.

If the battery is indeed completely flat it may need charging with a boost charger off the van. Caravan chargers are a bit of a compromise, they need to keep a battery topped up but don't charge at boost rates so that they don't overcharge and cause gassing of the battery. During the winter months I tend to take my battery off the caravan and bring it indoors, giving it the occasional charge using a "smart" charger. The well known one is the C-Tec brand, but they are quite expensive. A much cheaper, but in my opinion just as good, alternative is the one sold by Aldi or Lidl. Mine is the Aldi one and cost me £13. It does a great job! These aren't boost chargers though, and for that I would recommend one that can charge at 10 amps or more.
