Hi Jenny, im sorry to hear that the weather is not being kind to you. There are many factors that will influance what wind speeds an awning will stand upto, including how it is fitted with storm straps, the direction of the prevailing wind, and any shelter offered by nearby hedges and buildings to name but a few.
If you are really worried and want to take your awning down, maybe seek the help and advice of the site warden?
We have often found that they are happy to help, especially if a small token of apprieciation is offered, such as some nice liquid refreshment, or a tip to buy a pint or two for all their help and hard work.
You could also position any windbreaks you have so that they give added protection before the gusts hit the awning itself. If its a Traditional type of awning, you could also cross-guy the frame down on the inside, this will give it added strength and help prevent it from lifting should the wind get underneath it.
