Hi all i'm new to site i'm looking info as my wife and i have been campers for years and now we have decided to buy are 1st caravan we have seen the one we like but need more advice/help before we purchase.Its a Abbey Aventura 315 2 Berth Year 2004.Has anyone here had any history with this caravan or with the ABBEY make.Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thanks Joe.

Hi Joe, and welcome to the site. I don't have any personal experience of Abbey caravans, but one piece of advice I can't stress enough is check very thoroughly for the dreaded damp! Take a damp meter with you, and if you are not that familiar with caravans, take someone with you who is. Hope you find what you are looking for, and when you do, enjoy!

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the forum.

Colin is right, get a damp meter.

It is damp that finally kills a caravan. Other issues are generally far easier to resolve.

Have a look at the posting on here regarding a £30,000 Bucaneer Caravan which has severe damp. That should serve as a warning.

Ask the seller to connect water and electricity to the caravan and see if everything works.

When was it last serviced? The receipt should provide a damp report.

Abbey Caravans are a respected make. Consider getting a mobile service engineer to carry out a damp check and condition report for you prior to purchase, cost should not be more than £200 and it will put your mind at rest.

Yes, price is no indicator, nor is age. A £30,000 caravan with severe damp, yet my caravan bought two years ago cost me £1,100 and still no sign of damp. It's 27 years old too!

I would strongly advise taking along a registered mobile engineer.

Yes welcome please do check everything from electrics, water damp is the floor ok, sound advice to have an engineer pop round worth the £s we didn't on our 2nd van must have been blind that day it has since cost a fortune. If you know someone experienced re caravans take them with you. Happy hunting!😊

Dave is right, and others have given good advise too just one thing if you decide to do the damp test yourself you will need a damp meter that measures the levels as a percentage not just one that bleeps. As caravans have a wooden structure they will naturally hold a small amount of moisture levels below 18% shows no concern but should be kept an eye on if levels are above 20% then repairs are needed
