Hi, the Mrs and myself currently have a Mazda Bongo campervan that we love for our weekends away, but we are looking for a caravan for longer trips. I have been looking at various makes and models and I really like the 5th wheel type caravans These seem to have a good range of very nice vans. The vehicle I will be using to tow it is a Land Rover Defender 130 pick up. Max gross train weight is 7500 kg. Max towing weight is 3500kg for over-run braked trailers and 4000kg for coupled-brake trailers. Has anyone any experience or knowledge about these types of caravan? will many sites accept them? I have driven articulated lorries, so driving a 5th wheel trailer is no problem.
I have seen them in sites North and South of the Border, doesn't seem to be an issue.

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Seen quite a few of over the years.. mainly at shows, but after saying that, we were pitched near one this weekend on the North Yorks Caravan and motorhome club site.
Only thing that concerns me is what happens if the tug breaks down, not like you can hitch it on the back of flat bed recovery truck.
Seen the odd one or two on CMC sites in the UK. Also saw one on a site in France but he had quite a bit of difficulty getting it on the pitch. Because of the combined size you need to check out the sites you visit to make sure you don't have problems getting onto a pitch. I am not all together sure I see the advantage especially as you are very limited with regards to towing vehicle.
Andy for future reference there is a post edit button for use up to two hours after posting.
