New to caravanning and paying more attention to them. We bought a front cover for towing as it seemed a no-brainer to me but on the way back up from Cornwall noticed that 16/17 vans we passed didn't have one. Am I missing something here?

Personal choice really.

Just been down to Norfolk and back and I would say probably 60-70% of the vans had covers.

I used to have one on the van we traded in this year, but would not bother with another.

It's an extra cost that something I'm not in need of plus it's another item to store when not in use. If the front of my caravan gets dirty after towing (which it does sometimes) I just use a lightweight plastic bucket from the front locker filled with cold water and then use a car sponge to clean it down. No extra storage required and a simple task achieved in 5 minutes.

Personal choice really, I have been caravanning for many years and have only recently purchased one.

But my van is new and I want to protect it from stone chips, flies etc.

In all the years I have been caravanning I've never had a stone chip, as for flies don't they just wash off?

I got one has two friends I travelled with both had cracked windows from small stones and cost a lot re repairs. They also do save a lot of muck and dirt off the front so less washing the van.

I use one for all trips over 30 miles ...

If you have a new/newish van, I think it makes a lot of sense.

Saves and chips/scratches and tar from rear of car ... and the usual travel dirt/insects.

Same reply as most, didn’t have one on any of our previous older vans but bought one for our new van as she’s only four yrs old. Certainly kept front and windows clean on our 900 mile trek down to the Ardèche!

We also bought one for our new van and its worth every penny. Keeps the front clean and chip free.We were one of the first to purchase the new Protec zip up the middle cover last year, its brilliant and attracted a fair bit of interest on site too.

I'll go wioth others, it keeps the front fly & chip free & provided a bit of added protection for the front window as a crack here would cost 5 x cover cost.

Cant say I’ve ever come across this in decades of towing, the chances of the sun being at the correct angle to dazzle someone as they pass must be millions to one, surely. And last for a split second 🤔🤔

Tow covers are like buses all or nothing. I have been towing for years and mud, flies and chips are a problem so when I saw a nearly new cover on ebay I snapped it up what a bargain. The previous owner has a new van each year lucky me. The cover is easy to fit and stow and the caravan lights shine thro, it looks brill and even matches the colours of the outfit. The only problem I have not had chance to caravan due to problems beyond my control.

Replacement stone chipped
window cost me £400, Also towing long distances in France the flies/ insects seem to get baked onto the front of the van. My cover just cost £40 and does the job.

We have one for our caravan when i have arrived at site my caravan is spotless and clean .
By the way some caravan sites will not let you wash your caravan down ..
