Can anyone help please...we have been in France for a week with no trouble, then moved to a different site. At the same time I brought in from the car a new bed cover which had been stored in our spare room and might have had contact with our cat, (left at home). We were bitten badly in bed on the first night, then sprayed the bed and rugs etc with a flea control spray and washed the bedding, (sprayed mattresses and pillows, washed covers pillowcases and sheets on 60 degrees). Last night, second night, we have been bitten again. Has anyone any idea what we should do. Bites are in different areas of the body, sometimes 2-3 together sometimes just 1.

depends on what your using but if anything from the bob martin range or even frontline then you are wasting your time. go to pets at home and get the spray from them or even your vet, but in the meantime you need to hoover and hover and hoover everyday for the next 2 weeks min

Are you sure it's not mosquitos that have been doing the biting ?

We are not long back from Brittany and whilst we did not get bitten much during the day/evening we did suffer from mosquito bites at night.

Don't treat with chemicals until you know what you are trying to get rid of. As above it may be something like mossies but if it's bed bugs you have got a completely different situation to treat.

Last week up on the Yorkshire coast we were plagued by tiny pin head sized Black Beetles, with the jaws of a flea, and likewise l was badly bitten in the night. They were small enough to be able to get past the closed flyscreens, but luckily once we turned on our ultra violet fly zapper machine, they made their way into that rather than attacking me so much.

This handly little plug in machine is a smaller version to those found in catering establishments as part of their pest control hygiene regulations, and they also control Mosquito and Flies of all kinds, collecting the dead ones in an easy to empty catch tray in the base of the unit.

We bought it for around £30 from an online catering equipment suppliers a few years ago, and with no smelly chemicals to use, its perfectly safe for those of us who suffer from Asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Only downside is that you have to be on EHU to use it, but not a problem to us as EHU is the only pitch type we can use now due to running my other medical equipment and charging my mobility scooter up regularly whilst on site.

Thanks everyone. I dont think it is mosquitos as we havnt seen anything. I sprayed for fleas, which seems to have got rid of whatever was giving us really inflamed bites though the bites are still very large and red then did a smoke thing for fleas and bed bugs but we are still being bitten by something else. I will get a zapper when we get back, but in the meantime we ate going to give it a couple of days then move sites I think to somewhere cooler.

The best way to find out if it is fleas is to place a tray of water with added disinfectant either on the floor or bed and hang a light bulb about 6 inches above it,,(Not an Led bulb) And the fleas will jump up get burnt by the bulb and drop down into the water to be finished off if need be..

Works every time! been there done that and had the bites but didn't get the tea shirt!

If you do it in the dark so much the better but it will work in daylight.

A pest controller once told me that to hoover a carpet makes things worse as the eggs in the carpet will hatch from the heat the hovering makes. The fleas themselves have a short life span but the eggs can survive for months

Are you sitting outside during the evening? I'll bet it's mozzies or biting ants, rather than fleas. You don't see the little blighters (mozzies) or feel it until you're scratching, the next morning. Keep covered up or go inside and use your mesh screens.

We were both bitten excessively during our visit to France, this year.
