One of many questions, and have seen a few answers, but was curious of other people's experiences.

How do you keep yours clean in storage?

1) Cover, keeps everything off, but is it really that breathable? I would imagine it can't dissipate all moisture and can cause issues.

2) Regular washing. How often to keep clean?

3) Fenwicks winterising clean. Anyone got any experience, positive or negative. Does it really keep it clean over winter?

It's a new van, so want to keep it as clean as possible for as long as possible

I've never used a caravan cover because the caravan needs to breathe plus it's another item to store which I can do without. However, I have struggled for many years trying to keep the caravan clean whilst in storage as it's very time consuming to say the least especially if you're a bit picky like me and try to get it 100% clean. I have always used Fenwick's caravan cleaner as it shifts stubborn algea but is rather limited with just the the aid of a soft paintbrush to work the solution in (especially the awning rail and trims at each end), a telescopic extendable brush to clean the surfaces and a portable garden sprayer filled with clean water to rinse off. In mid season this year I decided to purchase the Worx portable cordless power washer which has reduced the cleaning time by at least a third plus the amount of grime shifted from the end trims alone has been somewhat astonishing to say the least and for the first time I can honestly say now IT'S CLEAN!
As for cleaning the caravan periodically I try to clean it (weather permitting) prior to our first trip out of the season then just clean it when necessary just like I do the car.

I clean my caravan before the winter then use a bespoke top quality cover. I can access the door with ease and the cover fits snug to prevent chaffing. The cover keeps the van perfect the caravan can breath as normal through the vents. I have tried the cheaper universal covers they flap and can chaff the windows. A simple shampoo and rinse no black streak no algae bird dropping, leaves, gunge or dirty rails. I got mine as new of Ebay for a song it sits in the loft when not in use.

Thanks tango55 for the soft paintbrush idea. I had not thought of that. I want to get my van clean before it goes for its annual service next week. I hope a lean van enca good service.

We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

On the subject of covers. What do folk do about aerials when using a cover? I broke the aerial on our old van when fitting the cover and don't want the same thing to happen on our new one. Can aerials be temporarily disconnected or is it just a case of being as careful as possible?

We cover ours ... but store indoors ... so different scenario.

Re hde-humidifiers ... not much point for outside storage (any storage) ... the air humidity inside or outside your van is going to be pretty similar ... so all you are doing is removing damp from circulating air, which is immediately replaced by more air at the same humidity level as that outside ... you might as well have them outside the van for all the help they will be ... IMHO.

To Daves mate,
I fitted a new TV aerial and it is easy to remove them. The lead unplugs and the whole thing an then be lifted up and out of the hole in the roof. There are plastic plugs made to seal off the hole.

A nightmare at the moment. I store my caravan just across the road from me surrounded by green belt, well that's a laugh no such thing nowadays and now building on the land. Planning for 750 houses they have started and tip all the excess soil and sand right behind storage, the wind blows it all over caravans.

If you clean your van then spray it with a product called "Spray and Away" it will remain algea free for at least six months without harming anything that you spray it on except maybe plant life but I haven't tried that and just use it on my van.

The one I use I got from a company called   "Midchem speciality" Who do a range of cleaning products for just about every thing and the ones I've tried are the dogs whatsits and reasonably prices including delivery.
