Well, that's it. My caravanning days have come to an abrupt end.

I had just sold my aging Hobby, all the contents packed in boxes ready to be unloaded into a newer 'van, and SWMBO announces that she does not want to go caravanning any more. In her defence, she is disabled and cannot walk far - difficult sometimes to walk about a campsite using a rollator!!

So nigh on 40 years of camping/caravanning in trailer tents and caravans comes to an end.

I have started to go through all the caravan contents and will sell what I can and dump the rest - awning, mover, hookups, water gear, cadac, tables chairs etc may be advertised on here, so I won't be signing off completely just yet.

if I was you I wouldn't rush to sell your items just yet, for a start you are more likely to get a better price come march time. but the main reason is that she may change her mind in the coming months and having to buy everything again from scratch will cost a fortune, if you can store it all in the loft out of the way for now and then see how she feels in a few months time, there is also the option perhaps you could get a smaller caravan and go it alone for now?

Make certain this is your correct decision. We have been caravanning now 47 years and to continue this year we bought a collapsible mobile scooter to continue, fits in car boot and 2 mins to assemble. This allows my wife to travel around campsites and also days out.We decided on this way to carry on after my friend decided to give up after 45 years, and he and his wife now regret this decision. But had they been a bit younger would of bought another caravan and towcar, but due to age is now uneconomical. Each time they see us go off with our caravan, now puts them in the dumps for a few days. Also the scooter is handy for the many Hospital visits that entail long walks once in the Hospital. I park up at entrance, get scooter out and off she goes around Hospital for appointments. I then pick her up when texted.

We once sold up entirely although due to a different reason when our teenage daughters at the time no longer wanted to continue with Caravan holidays. It was a decision we lived to regret, and we soon found ourselves buying tent camping equipment to start living the lifestyle once more.

A few years later, once they had flown the nest and my husband had retired and received his Golden handshake from work, we soon found ourselves searching for another caravan to begin the Dream once more. We have just gained our second time around 10year Club membership badge, and just like your wife, considered retiring from the hobby due to my Disabilities, getting as far as completely emptying our Caravan, but we realise now that we are totally addicted for life, and yes indeed, my little Mobility scooter is the best thing l ever bought, the only thing that l do struggle with a bit is getting up and down the Steps, due to Arthritis in my Knee.

Likewise, l would recommend storing your gear for a few months and try having a season without your Caravan, if you do decide to return at anytime in the future, then you won’t have the added expense and chore of buying replacements over again, and it is indeed quite handy at times to use some of the equipment around the home.
