Would I need to pay council tax for living full time in a caravan on a caravan park? Also, because no fixed address, how do I go about insurance for the car? Thanks

You could use a friend's address for insurance and other things you will not have to pay council tax

Take a look here and scroll down to the bit about caravans and boats.

If you stay on the same campsite you may be charged council tax but if you keep moving from county to county you may get away with it. However, if it is deemed that the caravan is your main residence there is a possibility that wherever you stay the local councils could charge you council tax.

A friend of ours moved into a static a few years ago, but hers only allows her to stay for ten months a year then she has to get out for two, she doesn't pay council tax and has found out she's not entitled to a bus pass or other benefits from the council because as far as they are concerned she doesn't exist..

if the premium is lower than the address of the caravan park, that can be classed as obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception.

also, most policy's state that the vehicle has to be kept at the insured address overnight.

The op has not made clear if caravan is a permanently sited static or a touring caravan towed behind their car that they intend to use on touring sites.

If it is a touring caravan then as pointed out they need to insure everything from a bricks & mortar address ie friend or relative & call that their address then they are technically on permanent holiday in the caravan.

Yes it is a bit Micky Mouse but it is how most full timers do it. The law requires a touring caravanner to move sites every 28 days so you will need to move between local sites unless you can find a site owner who will bend the law & allow you to stop permanently on the quiet.

We lived permanently in our caravan for 2 1/2 years on a caravan site. End of Nov we would move off to return in March. Between Nov and March we stayed on another caravan park in the same county. We never paid council tax.    As for insurance and driver's licence I used the address of a relative and cleared it with the insurance company no problem. The caravan was insured the same way.

council tax isnt charged twice.. if the site owners pay a collective tax it covers the people living on it..
