Does anyone know an lpg gas engineer who is able to connect our gas to our brand new Truma heater that is already installed. We are currently living in our mobile touring caravan whilst saving for a deposit but nobody seems to be able to do it or want to do it... we have gas connected to the hob but we need heat. Based close to Guildford/Woking areas. Thanks!!

mobile touring caravans used for that purpose (touring caravan) are not subject to the regs. however it should still be a competent person to install anything,

lots of comments are going to follow my post explaining why you shouldnt do it yourself and i am not going to argue with anyone, other than to say any work on a touring caravan gas system should be undertaken by a competent person. how competency should be demonstrated is a different matter .....

It doesn't actually matter whether you are touring in it or not. It is still classed as a touring caravan. Any competent person can connect a gas appliance, but I do stress competent.

So have you tried the local MCEA chap? What you need is a mobile caravan engineer who can come and do the job, if you book the caravan in at a dealer/workshop you'll have to pack everything up and take the caravan there, a mobile engineer will do the job at your storage or camp site without any of that hassle.

Just out of interest.. how is it that you have gas to the hob but not to the heater? Presumably somebody removed the old heater and fitted the new one so why didn't they connect it to the gas supply?

I can guess why you are having this issue. I take it you have tried mobile caravan service people & tbh if I was that I would not touch this job because I would then be responsible for gas safety in the whole caravan not just connecting the heater.

How old is caravan? Is this a new heater being installed in place of the original? Older caravans have heaters that ventilate underneath caravan which is now not considered safe.

So rock & hard place really. A responsible operative would not touch this job & if Jack of all trades did it you for cash in hand it may not be safe.

Having said all that It is not that difficult though for a competent diy’er to do this job with piping & connectors available from any caravan shop. Having installed the heater can you not connect it up yourself? Gas leak detectors are £50 upwards but you can buy aerosol gas leak spray that do the job.

A drop of diluted washing up liquid brushed round each joint does the job just as well. Even the tiniest leak will blow bubbles.
