Thinking of buying a 2008 Heritage 640ES - would be grateful to hear your views on this model, any particular problems to be aware of etc. Thank you in advance Price is £10995, dealership

I have no practical experience of Fleetwood but they don't seem to have any special problems so as long as the van has been serviced properly and does not have any damp problems it should be fine. There aren't many of these about so it's difficult to tell if the price is fair, it might be worth checking old sales on ebay etc to see what they fetch.

These caravans are very heavy, do you have a suitable car and licence to tow it with?

Fleetwood Caravans went out of business in 2009 so the one you're looking at will have been among the last produced. This begs the question whether there were any manufacturing defects or 'short cuts' as the company had financial struggles. That said, even if this were the case the likelihood is that the caravans that remain in good condition after another 10 years are probably those that had any such problems rectified.

£11k sounds like a lot for a 12-year-old caravan, even if it's a big and heavy one. If you ring the Camping and Caravanning Club and ask for an insurance quote they're able to give a 'book price' value.

I've just had a quick look to try and find another of these for sale. I found a 640EB, 2009 model which is for sale for £7495 so your 2008 does look expensive. I also found a 2008 560EK for sale at £6495.

Which dealer is selling this caravan at £10995?
