Hi all,
Family and I are very seasoned campers but are looking to branch out into buying our first starter caravan in the next month or so.
The storage site we are looking to possibly use will only store caravans that are insured, and I was wondering what people pay roughly for their insurance?
I know different vans will have difference insurance prices, etc, but as we haven't bought anything yet (haven't even seen anything yet to be honest), I can't even get a rough quote from anywhere.
We are looking for a family size van, roughly 500 size range I guess - it won't be new either - 2000 (ish) models.
Thanks for your help.
I sold my caravan this year,it was a 2005 three berth, insured through the CHMC the cost was £56 but that was just the van not including any accessories.

It's difficult to provide a figure because there are different options such as new for old if your caravan is less than 5 years old. Then there is legal protection cover, no claims protection, awnings and accessories etc. so the more you add on the more the premium is going to be. To be quite frank I think that the no claims protection is a bit of a gimmick anyway because when you request an insurance quote they always ask if you have made any claims in the last 5 years. If the no claims protection had any relevance it shouldn't make any difference anyway but they still take it into consideration so I don't bother with it. However, my insurance on a 2 berth 2004 caravan is around the £85 mark.
I paid for my caravan insurance last month and the actual cost of the insurance was £45. With all the add-ons, legal protection, and insurance premium tax the total came to £70.40, and that was with ClubCare through the C&CC. As others have said though, it depends very much on what you are insuring and which company you are with. It's a bit like asking how much is car insurance really, there will be a similar variation so until you know what caravan, it's exact age, and what extras you want, it is impossible to get even a rough idea.
I am curious, why would the storage yard be so insistent on having the van insured. Is this their way of telling you that they won't be insured if your van is damaged whilst in storage? and you would be expected to claim from your insurance if it is damaged?
Don't get me wrong I have always insured my vans, (well maybe not the very first one a 12ft sprite alpine that someone gave me) and would always encourage it.
Mine was £112 this year with extras. Shop around.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
If anyone is looking for caravan insurance, go to top cash back and try Towergate. Premiums are really good and you get decent cash back as well. I think last year I paid £48 in total after my cash back
