We have purchased a safefill gas bottle and we are away for the first time with it. We have a finger type connection for it but it isn't sealing, gas leaks out when switched on. The rubber seal looks OK. Has anybody else had this problem. Any advise welcome. We are on site but can't have the gas on.

We use the same setup.
You screw the pigtail in, turn on the bottle and it leaks. Now quickly turn the bottle off and check the connection and you'll probably find it's loose and you can tighten it some more.
Don't know why but it works ok on ours.

It's a metal on metal connection so just check that there are no scratches, dents, dirt or blemishes on the mating surfaces.

Treat yourselves to one of the "handwheel" type POL connections as these feature a soft rubber nosepiece that achieves a more reliable seal, together with doing away with carrying a spanner that is required for the metal to metal version.
Many types are available, even red as well as black plastic models.

JTQU that is the type we have. The deqler is baffled he said he has had no trouble with them before. We have to go back in with the bottle, pigtail connector when we get back. I will post on here what the problem is when we have been back next week.

Okay, as it has a "rubber" nose seal I can't see that not sealing unless it is split or cracked. Mine a Gaslow brand has a replaceable rubber nose seal.

If these are not readily available from a handy dealer I would be inclined simply to buy a new pigtail it being very much a "safety" issue.

I agree wholeheartedly, I have one of those, I upgraded to a stainless steel piped one when my last pigtail needed changing due to it's age.

Afternoon Sooty,
Have you sorted out your Safefill issue?
I agree with JTQU, replace with a wheel and steel pigtails, I did and have one of the original Bootle since 2011 and apart from one issue with the outlet several years ago, which the lads at Safefill sorted in no time, it has saved us loads of money.

No we haven't sorted it yet we are going over tomorrow to the dealer to get it sorted. Ours doesn't have that gauge on it but has the wheel for turning. The dealer said he has had no trouble with them in the past. I will post on here when we get back. My hubby can't see any splits. We didn't get home until yesterday then did a bbq in the garden with the calor gas bottle. Mu husband is going to try the cinnector later with that gas bottle.

Good luck at the dealer, There is no gauge, the wheel is used instead of a spanner, much easier than trying to mess about with a spanner. Hopefully you sort out the problem.

We had the hand wheel and swapped it for the normal connection. Best solution.

Hi everybody, thanks for all your responses. We went back with the bottle and connector and it worked. When we got home when it was connected in the caravan it didn't. Hubby put the one with a spanner connection on and it worked fine. Hubby phoned up again and was very apologetic. It was his son we had seen before. He said if we went back he would change it for us. As it is a way for us to go back he said he would put the rubber piece in the post to us. We haven't received it yet so keeping fingers crossed it works when we get it. He gave us a tip and said if it is not going to be used for a while to disconnect it as it can distort the rubber and will not seal.

We received the rubber nose piece and when comparing the two it made the one already on look old. Hubby put new one on and it works perfectly.
