Hi
Am just about to purchase my first caravan, and i would like to know what others use to safe guard your vans and what makes of are Excellent, Good and Not Good.
I am inclined to think that anything that acts as a deterrent, or makes a thief take a long time is as good as any. If a professional thief wants a caravan, they will have it no matter what devices you use, but anything that you can do to make it difficult for them will deter the casual thief. I have an older caravan and I use a hitch-lock and a wheel clamp. I don't know what make they are though as they just came with it when I bought it. Even I have a job getting the wheel clamp off, and I have the key.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

My van is at a secure storage yard, I have a hitch lock and a wheel clamp. (Which as Colin21 states is difficult to get off with a key let alone cut it off!)Its also depends on where you store the van. If at home park it so its tricky to move out, PIR lights on your house, CCTV, lockable posts in the driveway etc. The idea is to make it not attractive and easy to take.
Maypole hitchlock, Alko wheel lock And a cheaper wheel lock whilst in storage and just the hitchlock and cheaper wheel lock which we use whilst on site, if anyone wants to steal your van, they will, no matter how much security you have
Hi, we have an alko hitchlock, 2 nemesis wheel locks (twin axle need 2 for the insurance)https://www.towsure.com/fullstop-nemesis-ultra-wheel-clamp]nemesis[/URL]. We use nemesis ones as these are transferabble between vans if we swap in the future, Alko ones are specific to the van as use diffent no. inserts dependant upon make.
You can also get locks to fit in the holes for the corner steadies to lock these when in the down position on site.
Just remember to be bothered to put them all on when you are away.
Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question, there is certainly a big range to choose from I will have the mandatory wheel clamp and hitch lock also chained to an wall anchor and am thinking of a security post as well.
Go and have a look at CaravanID.com it’s a new initiative but is taking off and well worth the pennies to save thousands of pounds. And now have nothing to do with it apart from being a member, number 000666
